@HMBrough_ Twitter is not real life. Racism against Indian professionals in person the is exception, not the norm. Except the IT outsourcing guys.

@AH23923011 @HMBrough_ The shift is remarkable though - Europe went from “a better lifestyle” to “it’s better for the poor” Even Reddit recognizes that it’s not a place for the energetic and ambitious.

@HMBrough_ Idk about that. Left-wing liberal spaces like Reddit or most late night shows (e.g. "The Daily Show") still seems to propagate a view of Western Europe as a kind of post-materialist enlightened place, for the most part...🤔.

To be frank, everyone in America has contempt for Europe now. I go out to dinner with Indo-American lib normies who have a jaundiced view of Europe, citing their lazy work habits and lack of wealth.

@PandaBearParade @MaxMurrayTweets @jdcmedlock lol! We beat the issues and had mild inflation and low unemployment. At that moment the outgoing administration pumped through huge fiscal stimulus with giveaways to their friends. Self goal that could have been avoided.

Dems need to build a bigger tent with white people the way the GOP did with latinos. A few lessons from their approach: • call white areas trash • say they’re importing white voters to end democracy • run in an anti-incumbent environment where everyone is mad about inflation

We should remember that, while Trump did win the popular vote, it will almost certainly be by less than Clinton in 2016. If a Democrat put up those numbers, we'd consider it anemic.

@decmusicology @Johngcole It’s just straight up bad legislation with complete giveaways to interest groups. All of us who pay the price for it voted against D’s, while the few who benefited were lost by D’s due to the cultural BS. D’s are just anti America at this point.

@BobMeatwad @blob_watcher American GDP is mostly services. We don’t want cheap imported labor but we want lower inflation. I don’t know how these two things are compatible.

One major source of liberal nationalist and US foreign policy establishment confidence in the past few years has been that immigration maximalism would provide the US with a demographic and human capital advantage over China. That policy was thoroughly rejected yesterday.

@AdiBaurjan Socialism impoverished the population relative to capitalism. You're free to complain (though note that we were not totally free to do so), but growing up under capitalism, you're complaining at a much higher level of well-being

All of my problem used to be that I couldn't have Legos when I was 6 and instead played with 3-color rectangular-only East German knock-offs. It was very tightly specific to literally the socialist mode of production.

STR news that I'm following this week: - Airbnb (re)launched their Co-Host network allowing hosts to find co-hosts to help them manage properties. - Tacoma WA is Airbnb's top winter destination - Spain’s Supreme Court has ruled that HOAs can prohibit STRs What did I miss?

I’m a Druck fan, always have been! But this deification (“best macro investor of all time”) over the past few years is really weird. I mean there’s a reason Duquesne is now a ‘family office’.
Danny Dayan@DannyDayan5

I strongly recommend watching Stan Druckenmiller’s full interview. He is probably the best macro investor of all time. I don’t think he’s ever had a down year. He explains succinctly why he doesn’t think policy is restrictive. Hard to argue with him. youtu.be/-4NuOAfZjHo?si…

Economists who map the CPI and PPI into the PCE think core inflation for the Fed's preferred gauge will be around 0.26% in September, a touch below the Sept CPI (which was 0.31%) but the highest m/m reading since March

@MichaelGemballa @Empty_America Almost everywhere outside of California has a season that’s not suited for outdoors. But as far as heat goes, dry heat is a lot better than say the humid heat of Houston. Plus you have air conditioning so it’s really not a big deal.

Despite having no interest at all in gambling, I find Vegas one of the most interesting USA cities. The mountains right next to it are far more impressive than you would expect, Lake Mead is surreal, and the "outback" of the lower 48 starts immediately north of the city. The heat is so dry that you almost can't feel it like normal heat, and the winters can be quite crisp. It also has that weird hyper-diversity that mostly works out ok, like you see in much of California. It's like another planet, I would love to see the reaction of some guy who has never been outside of the NE after spending a month in Vegas.

Your daily reminder that there’s a 3-mile long stretch of beachfront condos selling for under $400k located just 5 miles from one of the best job markets in the US. Chicago remains unparalleled for its combination of good jobs, mass transit, and affordable housing.

Yes and no again… it is clearly a short term tax on citizens, but it does have an impact on the competitiveness of US companies (and employment) which does have a long term impact. We can argue if its net positive or negative, but we also know that China doesn’t play fair within most industries so 🤷‍♂️

@EconomPic @tomkeene Economically it doesn’t matter. But the phrasing matters for the politics. “It’s a tax on China” has a much better ring to it than “it’s a tax on you” Also when the tarriff is 100% like on Chinese EVs, it’s a defacto ban and not a tax because no one has a 50% margin to absorb.

Really doesn’t matter though… just easier to collect from the entity that’s bringing in the goods. The end result would identical to the exporter paying it… an amount collected (the tariff), lower profits for the exporter (to remain competitive), a higher price for the consumer, and an incentive to produce the good within the U.S.
