Construction continues on the Tucker Cycletrack project. Barrier curbs for the cycletrack are being installed south of Washington Ave and pavement markings are going in. One of several bus boarding islands, which allow in-lane bus boarding, is also under construction:

For those who decry curfews and think that the solution to youth roaming downtown late at night is keeping city recreation centers open late and creating safe spaces for young people, perhaps memories are short. The previous administration opened rec centers late and offered “alternative” nighttime activities in downtown. That approach was completely ineffective, and the problems downtown just worsened. While the images of kids being put in paddy wagons to be taken to reunification centers were jarring, maybe this is the kind of tough love that is needed. And let’s remember that of the 23 kids detained by the police, 17 were not from the City of St. Louis. Is the City now expected to entertain kids from throughout the region to keep them from trashing our downtown? We already host most of the region’s unhoused population, and now we’re expected to host the region’s teens as well? C’mon, how about putting politics and ideology aside and use some common sense. #Citizens4STL @MikeLKehoe @SLMPD @MitchellMcCoy @CFDstlfd @saintlouismayor @saintlouispres @SLDCmo @DevelopStLouis @AlderSheenBean @JamiCMichele @LishaLiberty @shanecohn @VDanielaV @Schweitzer88 @OldenburgSTL @STL4Ward @schubbard10 @boydstuff @GreaterSTLinc @CommerceBank @enterprisecares @Cardinals @horseshoestl @Advantes @UnionStationSTL @HiltonBallpark @AquariumSTL @Stifel @SchnuckMarkets @DowntownStLouis @stlcid @carolinehecker @charliekmox @andybankertv @rlippmann @solomonreports @DavidAmelottiTV @MarkMaxwellTV @ChrisHayesTV @RyanWKrull

The population decline in the City of St. Louis should be a wake-up call. Yet, the City discourages housing production by imposing more requirements on builders in the vain hope that they will build more affordable housing. We need to increase the supply of all housing.

2 of 2 Downtown is not a theme park. It needs to be a place where people love to live. If we make that happen, businesses will follow because their employees will want to live here. We have suggestions for our business, civic, and political leaders: • End the disorder by enforcing ordinances related to parking, traffic, vehicle registration, nuisance properties, liquor licenses and other quality of life concerns. • Produce a credible development plan to guide the city and organizations involved in managing or investing in downtown. • Advocate for a single voice to speak for downtown and seek coordination of efforts by the organizations that claim to speak for all or part of downtown. • Align public and private investment prioritiesto strengthen and accelerate residential and business growth. • Allocate resources more effectively to improve public safety. Combine the resources spent by multiple organizations and the SLMPD to create a more visible and effective police and security presence throughout downtown. • Make ending homelessness a regional goal instead of a downtown problem. A commitment to downtown is a commitment to the city and metro area. These commitments are being made in other cities. They can be done here, too. Tim Bryant is a former reporter and 18-year resident of downtown. David Sosne is an attorney and 14-year resident of downtown. Les Sterman is a public agency executive and 21-year resident of downtown. #Citizens4STL @MikeLKehoe @SLMPD @MitchellMcCoy @CFDstlfd @saintlouismayor @saintlouispres @SLDCmo @DevelopStLouis @AlderSheenBean @JamiCMichele @LishaLiberty @shanecohn @VDanielaV @Schweitzer88 @OldenburgSTL @STL4Ward @schubbard10 @boydstuff @GreaterSTLinc @CommerceBank @enterprisecares @Cardinals @horseshoestl @Advantes @UnionStationSTL @HiltonBallpark @AquariumSTL @Stifel @SchnuckMarkets @DowntownStLouis @stlcid @carolinehecker @charliekmox @andybankertv @rlippmann @solomonreports @DavidAmelottiTV @MarkMaxwellTV @ChrisHayesTV @RyanWKrull

Citizens for a Greater Downtown St. Louis
LINK & THREAD: 1 of 2 From the @stlouisbiz: Three longtime downtown residents call for coordinated plan to revive downtown St. Louis | Opinion: We are three of more than 11,000 residents of downtown St. Louis. Because City Hall and downtown business leaders routinely ignore residents' views and experiences, we want to share our perspective on downtown living. As people who are here 24/7, we are dismayed by sensationalized descriptions of downtown as a hellscape of lawlessness and decay. Often these flawed accounts are propagated by people who do not live, work or visit downtown. To be clear, we are aware of downtown's problems. We see the vacant storefronts, the empty office buildings, the graffiti scars, and streets often lifeless except for drivers speeding, cruising or running red lights. We get panhandled. That said, the city has the assets necessary for downtown's revival and long-term success. What we need is a commitment by city officials, business leaders and developers to work together and act. In the 1990s, downtown began transforming from largely a business center to an area more anchored by a diverse and growing residential community, unique institutions and visitor attractions. Apartments and lofts filled century-old structures that were built for industry or commerce. Our walkable downtown now incorporates a national park, remarkable architecture, a restored and modernized Carnegie library, major sports venues, restaurants, a sculpture garden and a newly expanded convention center. Organizations provide opportunities for people to meet and socialize. Downtown has the feel of a neighborhood set among big-city amenities. Downtowners like living downtown. We chose to live here. We walk the streets without fear and enjoy attractions without having to get into our cars. As in every urban community, downtown has issues that occasionally include late-night crime. City services are inconsistent. The region's homeless problem is concentrated in or near downtown. Yet the incidence of crime is exaggerated and very rarely affects downtown residents directly. Defining downtown by these challenges is a mistake. Yet decision makers who spend little time downtown spread the notion that the area is dangerous and unpleasant. Too often that view shapes solutions they offer for problems they inaccurately define. In the post-pandemic world of slimmed-down offices and work from home, downtowns need a strong residential base that attracts creative and dynamic people who are drawn to urban centers. We reject the view that the only fix for downtown is to add events for visitors or to build more isolated enclaves such as Ballpark Village for outsiders to drop by for a few hours, then leave. We welcome large conventions, which benefit hotels and restaurants, although they do little for downtown residents. Apparently, holidays in St. Louis are no longer occasions for celebration and fun, but an excuse for drinking, drugs, shooting, and general mayhem, especially for juveniles.

@Beganovic2026 @AlderSheenBean The issue isn’t that we need more or less vendors. I am generally supportive of street vending. The issue at hand is the closing time since the ordinance that governs street vending only allows them to vend until 11 PM. However, vending is occurring to 4 AM.

Downtown needs more late night street food vendors, not less. It needs more late night entertainment, not less. If you want a retirement community, @DanSTL77, try Friendship Village. Thank you @AlderSheenBean for working at the BOA to make it easier to be a street good vender

@Citizens4STL Here’s another derelict vehicle, this one near Pine and 14th Street downtown, that has been there last I looked a couple of days ago. It has been left there for a long time. Many tickets with no action taken to have it towed.

This green bus has been parked in this spot for almost 3 weeks. It has not moved or been ticketed. It is taking up several spots valuable to other businesses. Can you please address this? 1200 block of Washington. @stlcsb
