✨️Poilievre is gleefully screaming "technical recession" but hiding the math. Canada's Q1 GDP contraction is 0.036% annualized, which rounds to zero. Levesque nailed it: that's mathematically nothing.
✨️Meanwhile France is flat at 0.0%, Germany at 0.3%, Italy at 0.2%. The US and UK have actual momentum at 0.5%-0.6%.
✨️This isn't a unique Canadian crisis; it's a trade shock that shows up as a rounding error in quarterly data.
✨️Early April figures already tracking +0.4% rebound. But here's the con: Poilievre gets to weaponize a headline ("recession!") for maximum political damage while offering zero alternative policy to actually improve it. No plan. No answers.
Just eagerness to exploit potentially bad news for his own agenda. That's the pattern.

Martin Patriquin on Mark Carney's speech in New York: Everything Mr. Carney was saying in that speech basically goes along with what he said in Davos ... But what he's done is branded it with a very important bumper sticker, "Make America Great Again."
The interesting thing for me is to watch the US reaction to it. They did not like that Davos speech one bit. Pete Hoekstra certainly didn't like it. He telegraphed how happy he was to hear Carney say those very words.
When Carney is saying the exact same thing now as he was saying before, it just goes to show the importance of packaging when negotiating with the Donald Trump administration.
