Really rewarding day doing a memory lane tour this morning, I could have listened to Bob Moncur’s stories all day and it was great to see Terry Mac. This afternoon we did a tour with residents of care homes from Newcastle & Durham and the old folk had some great tales to tell.

After crossing the bridge over the River Aa we then headed for the Willemsvaart Canal. Following right in the footsteps of the 7th Royal Welsh Fusiliers. The veterans accounts are incredible of the battle that raged here in October 1944 during the liberation of s’Hertogenbosch….

One of the best. Now that El Alamein has become a major tourist resort with its own airport with routes to Europe, more people should hopefully visit.

Fred’s grave is in Harton Cemetery. I’m told in later life, his little treat every Saturday was a couple of pints in the club & a Chinese takeaway. I’ve just read his book again, it’s only 60 pages, yet epitomises what these old fellas were made of. Thank you Fred #lestweforget
