@diegoconconor @DenErGrei87 @Emzyl_ probably wasn’t even born and is just going off stats. Barnes tore teams to shreds playing on mud heaps in a 442. If Barnes played in a 433 on the bowling green pitches of now and got the protection forwards get now, he’d get the recognition he deserves as one of the greatest

Nah, thinking about it again, Carragher ranking John Barnes ahead of Salah as a bigger Liverpool legend is genuinely bonkers, I still can't believe it man. I mean what's the criteria?! In what planet was Barnes a better player than Salah never mind a bigger pool legend??

@BelieveInKlopp @GHL72 His team are perceived as soft, lazy and unfit. Being out ran, out fought, not tracking runners, in 90% of matches this season is unacceptable and stems from training ie the coaching methods. Then he goes to press conferences and lies about it.

To be fair Isak isn’t all Slot’s fault. So a hundred and something million of what was spent hasn’t been available to Slot. Getting new players to settle has always been a challenge, Klopp understood this so kept many new signings on the bench at 1st. So it’s the lack of identity on the pitch and his lack of awareness about Liverpool culture in the way he speaks etc?

A lot have Liverpool fans have made up their mind on Slot and want him replaced. Which leads me to ask will we be patient with the next manager, if he comes in, doesn’t fully hit the ground running and have us challenging straight away. What are the expectations?

@bensteves_ @LFCApproved The manager can’t be blamed for who he selects in the starting 11? If players have fallen off a cliff, then why are they playing? Thats his choice, and it’s going to cost him his job.

@ScouseCommie @brendan9320 @utdlee7 @mark_lockey @henrywinter @premierleague If you believe that then you're thick, Man Utd are over 1 billion in debt but can still spend 100 mill a year, it's designed to keep the greedy 6 at the top as it's based on income so clubs in champs league can spend a shit load more and the new rules make it harder to break in

Richard Masters @premierleague spoke to both Houses in advance of Tuesday’s second reading of the Football Governance Bill. Warned of a “big risk” of an independent regulator. “Very few industries welcome additional regulation but it is here and we will continue to engage with it positively,” Masters said. “By any yardstick we are an incredibly successful industry. But it is not just the Premier League, right down through the pyramid, we have got fantastically successful leagues.  It [a regulator] is a first. We can't look to Germany or Spain or France and say, ‘Well, we can see it working’.  “We are taking a big risk with a very successful industry and so we're asking MPs and Peers to look at the Bill very carefully and to look at it with a dispassionate head on and make sure that all of football benefits from it, and we don't bump into unintended consequences.  “Football is successful because it has had investment, investment from all over the world coming into this country and investing on the pitch for fans to really enjoy. We don't want that to be choked off, we want for that model to continue. “The regulator borrows prudential regulation from the financial services, and I can’t see a parallel between the football industry and the banking system. When you are tying up capital and tying up money that can no longer be invested, then you start to lock in the status quo. We have had 51 clubs in the Premier League. Brighton have come right the way through the system and are now playing in Europe - it is an aspirational system, all these things are great for football, we want clubs to come up and do well.   “We have been negotiating with the EFL for over a year with a generous package on top of what we already do – and that remains in place. We heard the EFL indicate if we did a deal they would want to unwind that and our clubs are very worried about there being a baseline for a renegotiation. We are now prioritising new financial regulation for the Premier League. I don’t want this backstop power to ever be used, it is unnecessary. Since 2007, we have been bilaterally agreeing more generous deals with the EFL and I would love that to continue. That’s my aspiration and hope.   “In our current three-year cycle, £1.6bn is being distributed – 16 per cent of our revenues - all the way down to the National Leagues and grass roots. We support just about every aspect of the men’s game. The EFL are doing well commercially with new broadcast deals both domestically and internationally.  We believe their revenue will increase substantially in 2025/26, and we think that’s positive. There are lots of great things happening in the game and I would much prefer if the Premier League and EFL could come to an agreement itself without the use of the backstop power, which currently covers just solidarity payments.   “Of course, there is a lot of debate about parachute payments. They are a vital component of the Premier League and the Championship – in the sense that if you want to be a competitive club coming up from the Championship then you need to know you will be financially supported on the way down. That’s why parachute payments are so important and must remain part of the sustainability tools that we have.   “We are asking for light touch, proportionate regulation. The backstop power needs to remain as it is. We need long-term certainty - you cannot underestimate how important that is. If the backstop power was to be renewable every three years, we would be in a perpetual state of negotiating and nobody would know where they stand, which could be deeply damaging to the game.”

@ifill_james @Sean_Rogers @Knox_Harrington Probably easier to just not pick endo, jones, Mac together as a midfield three. Two of them plus one of dom, grav, Elliot gives a better mix.

@kat_lfc13 @KopiteAndrew @dmlynchlfc If Elliot and Gakpo are the wide forwards, they need full backs who will drive past them. Bradley/Robertson and not Gomez/Kostas. Jones and Mac are very similar. With those full backs selected it needed a grav or dom to break the lines. The whole set up of the side was off.

@KopiteAndrew @dmlynchlfc Who? Robertson and Salah are still being managed back from their injuries. Salah, Diaz and Szobo were all awful when they came on anyway and Gakpo was probably our best player. Konate and Gomez coming in should have added experience to our defence.

Don't think I've ever said this before about Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool before but there was a strong whiff of complacency about tonight from the manager's selection to the players' performances. Atalanta just bullied them all across the park for 90 minutes and deserved their win.

@ronanpatlee @__SVS2 They are all absurd but are different issues. The cameras not being able to pick up 100% of the pitch is technology driven which is fixable with advances in technology. The issue on Saturday was human error and the PGMOL being excused won’t help any team moving forward

Sheffield United were basically single handedly relegated back in 2020 due to a goal line technology error, an error which cost them 200m, and there wasn’t even half the amount of bed wetting about that ffs
Sky Sports News@SkySportsNews

Liverpool have vowed to "explore the range of options available" after claiming sporting integrity was undermined after Luis Diaz's goal was ruled out against Tottenham for what the PGMOL described as "significant human error".

@ronanpatlee @__SVS2 and arsenal scored against Liverpool in the league last season when saka was miles offside and VAR didn’t have the camera angle to prove it 🤷‍♂️ The incident on Saturday is not comparable to either of these as there was no issue with the technology on Saturday

@SamMcGuire90 Sam what is the score between Liverpool and Man City with VAR decisions fucking a team over, I genuinely can’t think of a time Man City had goals chalked off wrongly by VAR only opposition goals to be disallowed or fouls not given, they seem to benefit more than anyone else?

You have to assume the refs at the top level would improve though if their actions had genuine consequences. Right now they're stood down for a game, not as a punishment but so they're taken out of the spotlight for a week. How does that improve them?
Daniel Storey@danielstorey85

I know people aren't ready to hear this, but there's a lot of "find better refs" about. Fine, but where? There's a chronic shortage in grassroots and worry about standards in EFL. Abuse crisis lower down means that it's simply not an attractive career choice.

That's a red, Curtis Jones can't argue, VAR intervention, serious foul play, over the top on Bissouma. Challenge shown on the big screen, clubs doing it more, but stokes anger. Confirmed why Jones had to go. #TOTLIV

Greatness awaits #MCFC, putting them alongside Liverpool 84 and Manchester United 99. But the charges still need addressing. For #MUFC, the contrast in #FACupFinal benches alone should focus minds. ETH needs backing in the window and clarity on ownership. thetimes.co.uk/article/6d4678…

@sportingintel Maybe he likes looking at this investment if nothing sporting. Value of 5b now, seems like a good return. And just because those weird Boely or Kronke or Glazers turn up more often doesnt mean they care any more about their team, if at all in some cases, it’s all about business.
