@luinalaska My own mother figure is retired, lives 15 minutes away, and makes little to no effort. I’m self-employed at my home and 2/3 half days a week of childcare is too much to ask, nevermind any leisure time. I don’t really understand 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Your children are busy. Be useful. Enter into the work of family not just your expectations and desire for leisure. Go shopping for them! Take the kid to the dentist appointment they could only get at 2:00 pm. You are retired. Now is your time to shine. My daughter-in-law is delivering a baby soon. I am: -placing zero expectations on when I see them or the baby and have strongly encouraged her to have boundaries on this -not inviting myself to any birth related events without explicit request for assistance or my time -paying someone to deep clean their home while they’re out of town for delivery WITH HER PERMISSION. She probably doesn’t want her mother-in-law doing it but a professional will get the dirtiest bits well -stocking the fridge so I can feed them when they return without interrupting, interfering, or adding any expectation of hospitality for THEM to take care of ME **at all** -zero demands for emotional labor on my behalf These women are never beating the allegations. It’s not about you. You are in a supporting role. This is your time to step up in the background. Grease the wheels of life when you can. It’s a privilege. Be the person you needed when your own babies were small.
