Message from a friend in Iran : Considering Trump’s threat to push us back into the Stone Age and destroy Iran’s infrastructure in the coming days, perhaps in just two days we may no longer have access to the internet, electricity, or water, and like me, millions of other Iranians will be in serious danger. As a result, I will put aside all formalities and say this clearly: I am surprised that in nearly forty days, Iranians abroad have not organized any meaningful gathering to end the war and to stand against the clear and serious threats of the president to destroy the right to life of millions of our fellow citizens inside the country. Not even a ten-thousand-person protest has taken place anywhere in the world. I am speaking to you from Tehran in distress. We who are trapped inside, but if the lives of millions of your fellow citizens, your parents, and your loved ones matter to you, why have you not brought any pressure on the American democratic government? Your president has explicitly threatened to destroy the lives of millions of your fellow citizens. All basic principles of human rights and human ethics have been trampled, and a society of ninety million people has been threatened with a return to the Stone Age. Yet there has not even been a single gathering of Iranians in front of their embassies. Unless your country is not democratic and global public pressure has no effect on it. How do you think you can, through protests and your campaigns, stop the execution of a few of your fellow citizens under a totalitarian government, but you do not take action to prevent the destruction of your country’s industrial and energy infrastructure and the loss of millions of lives?
