Trump's reckless war on Iran is costing lives abroad. It's also driving up prices at home, literally. The jump in mortgage rates resulting from the war will cost a typical first-time homebuyer today $22,680. From @amprog's Kyle Ross: americanprogress.org/article/trumps…

It's been nearly one year since Trump's "Liberation Day," and his tariff agenda has resulted in blue-collar job losses in nearly every state while failing to boost manufacturing or close the trade deficit in goods. ampr.gs/4rCgT3w

Tax refund amounts continue to track downward, following past years' patterns. Some big returns may come in late (ie, ones w/ SALT), and 1% fewer refunds filed so far compared to last year... But no sign yet that the Admin will hit its +$1,000 (+30%) refund promise.
Andrew Lautz@andrew_lautz

5th batch of IRS stats today, for the week ending March 6. Average refund size is down again, from $3,742 to $3,676. Still up 11% (+$352) from 2025 average at the same point in the filing season.

Just In: PCE Inflation was 2.8% in January, a bit below expectations. But Core PCE Inflation was 3.1%, the highest since March 2024. **PCE Inflation could easily hit 4% this spring due to the war in Iran** It's notable that PCE shows a lot of spending on healthcare where costs are clearly rising in 2026.

Abolishing the Jones Act during 2018–19 would have decreased East Coast refined product prices, especially in the Southeast. The Gulf Coast gasoline price would have increased, from @RyanMKellogg and @richlsweeney nber.org/papers/w31938

Let me put this another way: The US economy has LOST jobs since April 2025. Total job gains since from May 2025 to February 2026 are now -19,000. Companies are not hiring in the face of all of these headwinds and uncertainty. And even healthcare is starting to slow down.
Heather Long@byHeatherLong

JUST IN: A dismal February jobs report. The U.S. economy LOST 92,000 jobs in February and the unemployment rate ticked back up to 4.4%. Even healthcare shed 28,000 jobs in February. December was also revised down to -17,000. January was revised to 126k. Unemployment rate: 4.4% —> highest since December (and one of the higher rates in past few years) Wage growth: 3.8% (well above 2.4% inflation)

A "warrior dividend" of $1776 would be roughly equal to the $1700 annualized cost of Trump's tariffs for the average American household. So, who would be winning in this scenario?

Is replacing all income taxes with tariffs mathematically possible? No. And even if you could, it would be terrible for everyone but the rich. From @CAPAction (h/t @Brendan_Duke):

Despite the Trump administration’s claims that other countries would pay for its tariffs, Americans are paying the price. The Harvard Business School Pricing Lab found that prices have risen relative to pre-tariff trends—from meat to coffee and tea. ampr.gs/4s8jaEn

If Trump really cared about the "crushing cost of health care," he wouldn't have let premium costs double this year for 20 million Americans who buy coverage on their own. americanprogress.org/article/health…
