@orangebook A high-esteem individual cannot be manipulated, simply because their life is internally driven and not controlled by forces outside themselves. They know what they want and cannot be deceived to want something else.

People who seek to control you and benefit from you tend to suddenly disappear once they understand that you won't be easily manipulated. People who actually care about you will instead seek to empower you to do your own thing.

A person of good heart.should always protect it. You don't keep a valuable treasure outside, where just anybody can have access to it. The same way, you must protect your emotions from the unworthy.

Self acceptance is a major part of building self esteem. You must accept your mistakes before you can go on to improve. Accept yourself. Accept your shortcomings, you're human. After the acceptance, only then can betterment ensue.

As you try to change, understand that it will be hard. True change isn't easy, it takes time and courage, so be patient with YOURSELF.

If you must carry on relationships with people as a person of high self-esteem, then they must reciprocate. Do not put all your eggs in one basket if you notice that the person is stacking some of his/her eggs somewhere else. Discard the relationship.
