Police in RR Nagar have arrested a man identified as Haniyur Chandregowda on charges of allegedly blackmailing and sexually exploiting multiple women. According to the police, the accused allegedly befriended women, gained their trust, and recorded private videos without consent. He is also accused of using these videos and photographs to threaten victims and extort money. Investigators said that more than 20 videos and images involving different women were found on his mobile phone. Chandregowda, who was reportedly associated with a district-level child welfare committee in Ramanagara, is also accused of impersonating a police officer, lawyer, and media representative to intimidate victims. Police said he allegedly created fake identity cards as part of the scheme. In one recent case, the accused allegedly approached a woman who was living separately from her husband, introduced himself as a lecturer, and claimed he was divorced. He reportedly promised to marry her, established a relationship, and recorded private videos. Police allege that he later used those videos to threaten her and extorted around ₹5 lakh. The woman later accessed his phone and discovered videos and conversations involving other women, following which she filed a complaint at the RR Nagar police station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and determine the full extent of the alleged crimes.
