@_shawarmaKing @HaydenA__ Its the most important thing in a Zelda
Hence why botw/totk are trash
English

- Ocarina doesn’t have a 3 hour tutorial
- Ocarina’s story is truly dark… Twilight Princess just tries to be dark
- Ocarina’s items are actually useful outside of their respective dungeon
- Ocarina’s Hyrule field takes like a minute to cross. TP’s is unecessarily big
SerenaLeaf@ZeldaGarf
Why is Ocarina of Time considered the greatest game of all time when Twilight Princess is just better?
English

@HaydenA__ I have a hunch you might be getting set up for disappointment in regard to what the size of Hyrule Field will likely become in the remake lol
English

@dmc5dmc52 @SeeksOut_ *sigh* I know there are darker stories out there - it’s bold to assume that I haven’t engaged with darker content. The Last of Us is an all time favourite of mine.
However, Ocarina successfully explores its darker elements, whereas (to me) TP doesn’t.
Treat others with respect.
English

@HaydenA__ @SeeksOut_ The game was made for children, it's not "dark" even if xyz bad thing happens in game. Watch a horror movie for once or engage in something actually dark. Slightly dark themes does not make the game dark, be real
English

@HaydenA__ Yeah that's my point, the "tutorial" phase can be seen as the first 3 dungeons with the way they had it set up, because it does a better job teaching someone who may be new what to expect compared to later games that are like "you've played zelda before right so good luck."
English

@KanikouEstellia The entire game is teaching you new mechanics - you obtain the mirror shield in the final dungeon, and that dungeon teaches you how to use it. That doesn’t mean the entire game is a tutorial. You’re making meaningful progress in those 1st 3 dungeons.
English

@HaydenA__ 1. Ocarina has a long tutorial. The Deku Tree, Dodongo Cavern and JabuJabu are teaching you as if it's your first Zelda. 2. The story is segmented enough people miss things. 3. TP has usefulness outside of dungeons too. 4. Walk normally in OoT, it feels just as big and empty.
English

@SummerKiyohime You’re comparing apples to oranges - Twilight Princess and BOTW take very different approaches to game design.
Ocarina of time and Twilight Princess have very similar blueprints, and for my money, Ocarina accomplishes its goals far better than Twilight Princess.
English

3h Tutorial is there so the player connects with the children of Udon. So YOU want to save them. So we can get shots of Link like this. THIS is the game telling you "Yeah, good job, you are now a Hero". You cant get this stuff without story (shade at Wilds Era) #TwilightPrincess

@HaydenA__ Because it builds fucking character.
You don’t deserve to play Zelda if you hate the opening arc where Link lives peacefully in his village before being forced to take up a sword.
Yes I believe this.
English

@HaydenA__ People disagreeing with you in the comments is very good insight into why modern gaming sucks.
English

@LLAMA___KING I’m not saying it’s the most insane story ever, but Hyrule town’s residents being killed, link losing his childhood, the shadow temple having literal torture devices, and gorons being fed to volvagia are absolutely dark.
English

“Ocarina’s story is truly dark” lmao dude, not wrong about the story comparison to TP tho, but still

@PlasmaticNinja Why would I play a game that holds my hand for hours when I could play a game that lets me play (and has taught me all I need to know) within minutes?
English

@HaydenA__ Longer tutorial is better. Increases narrative stakes and payoff when SHTF
Bigger Hyrule field is better. Immersion.
English

@KokoroKyoushi @SeeksOut_ It’s pretty heavily implied that not all made it out and were turned into gibdos
English

@HaydenA__ @SeeksOut_ The other points stand, but Castle Town's residents were actually safely evacuated.
English

@SeeksOut_ Castle town’s residents being killed, Link losing his childhood, torture devices in the Shadow temple, gorons being fed to Volvagia… that kind of stuff
English

@Gibbs6797 Everything up to the first dungeon is widely considered the tutorial. You’re learning both Human and wolf link. The best speed runners still take almost an hour to get to the first dungeon.
English

@HaydenA__ 3.... hour tutorial? Its like 5 mins bruh and then 5 mins after you become a wolf?
English

@AphrahAshe There’s a decent amount to do in TP’s Hyrule field, but I don’t know if I would consider bug hunting or Poe hunting fun - especially because the rewards aren’t helpful.
Most of the time Hyrule field just felt like big chunks of geometry to me
English

@HaydenA__ I dunno. Having actual stuff to do in it helps it, I think. It's not great, but it wasn't mind-numbingly boring every visit except when gathering Poes.
English

@RaffoPhantom @shirolamperouge A lot of Zelda games have dark stories if you take literally 2 seconds to think about it. Like half of Hyrule dies in a link to the past, Hyrule fucking sinks in Wind Waker, The world is nearly destroyed in Breath of the Wild, THE MOON IS CRASHING INTO TERMINA???
English

@HaydenA__ @shirolamperouge If "not wanting to experience what happens in the game yourself" is your metric of being "dark" then every fucking Zelda game (and like 90% of alle video games) is "dark" which renders your whole point moot.
English

@2beep2boop Hey I agree, most Zelda games are fantastic! But it depends on what you’re looking for in a Zelda game. For me, Twilight Princess misses the mark in too many important (to me) areas
English

@HaydenA__ I think everyone's quest for "what game is the pinnacle of zelda" blinds people to the fact that both of these games are bangers. The franchise has so many games because it has so many good entries.
English

@shirolamperouge Oh, so if it isn’t dark, you would be completely fine experiencing everything that happened in that game?
Cause I sure wouldn’t, some objectively depressing and horrible stuff.
English

@HaydenA__ not to mention things like the hero of time struggles being mostly exagerated and flanderized by the comunity and most actually darker elements being handwaved and not alnowledged by the game's narrative.
English

@shirolamperouge So the inhabitants of Castle town being killed, Link losing his childhood, the Gorons being fed to Volvagia, literal evidence of torture in the shadow temple, and it’s not dark?
