Played Abacoa for years. Remember when it opened in winter of 1999, and they were still building the homes sites and the commercial complex. I think Roger Dean just opened.
It was always windy, windier than most places in area. Amazing to see the development around it, and that whole area. Quite remarkable

One of the few times I'm willing to entertain the "they're better athletes now" argument is when you learn that Nicklaus smoked TWO PACKS A DAY as late as 1978.

Jack Nicklaus was smoking. The 27-year-old already had six major championships on his résumé; that heady spring, it felt like he could win 100. He was one of the brightest stars in any sport, which in those days meant a cover story with Sports Illustrated. Nicklaus walked into the photo shoot still working on a cigarette, and the photographer, a 23-year-old named Walter Iooss Jr., was immediately inspired. He ordered Nicklaus to keep the cigarette lit, reached into his pocket and handed the Golden Bear his Ray-Bans. The resulting image has become one of the best-known portraits in sports history, let alone in golf...

@HoustonGolfHead @SAMTurretSlater 7 is great. Blind tee ball and pushing it up the right closer to the crap gives you a better angle at green. Love how both of the 5s narrow at the green so the choice to go for actually becomes a choice. Can’t just send it up in the vicinity and expect up and down

@golfclubenjoyer @SAMTurretSlater I absolutely love 3. Yes - was going to say that my only knock is the 3’s are all kind of similar. They are all still good holes though. I think 7 is an awesome par 5

@SAMTurretSlater @HoustonGolfHead Counterpoint - 3 is genius, lay up is tight but if you go for it it’s wide but blind. The green complex is incredible too. The 5s are great, and more importantly unique. IMO the biggest critique is that the 3s are repetitive.
