Castell Harlech has watched over this landscape for 700+ years. Built by Edward I, it has endured rebellion, siege and shifting tides—now overlooking Royal St David’s, where the game unfolds beneath its shadow.

I spent 3 days @AberdoveyGC & fell in love with the place. The out & back links has a mix of dramatic holes carved from the dunes and strategically designed holes on flatter ground, including several where the adjacent railway line serves as a genuine hazard.

• St Andrews does Old Course Reversed • Royal Melbourne offering limited Composite Course tee times • Sandwich/Deal/Princes has The Hagen 54. Are there other composite/alt-routings out there Clubs could offer to visitors?

@YeahClickClack Blackwolf Run “Original/Championship” routing, the original 18 by Pete Dye used for the 1998/2012 US Women’s Opens. Available from open-last week of April

@TimGavrich Bruntsfield looks sweet. I've seen pics of it when the gorse is in bloom. feels like a good first stop touching down in Edinburgh.

@YeahClickClack The two courses are fun, too. Very good Scottish parkland golf of the sort that is entirely overlooked - only somewhat justifiably - due to links fever. I was glad to play them both in a single fall day in 2019.

@YeahClickClack something my caddy at RA mentioned. believe it's more of a get together amongst members at both clubs.

Every 5 years, the two big Edinburgh clubs, Bruntsfield Links and Royal Burgess, play a Grand Match. They open the gate between them and play 9 holes from each. Whichever club wins more holes is the champion, I believe. They have also done cross-country golf - first tee at Bruntsfield to the 18th green at Burgess.

@YeahClickClack Lundin Links and Leven Links play a combined course. Royal Aberdeen and Murcar could do the same.

@YeahClickClack They don't do this, but you could make an amazing pick and mix 18 holes from the Old, New, and Jubilee at St. Andrews.

@pclawson27 I had these two courses in mind when I was thinking of this. I did not realise they actually did it though. Seems like a no brainer to me.. If you find out what they call it please let me know, im interested.

@gazzawilk may have to look into that.. I think it's a great idea to get some buzz going while leaning into the history. Lundin seems like a great Club to be a part of...

@jamierkennedy yeah, I think that's really awesome. Prestwick is obviously a pretty unique case but all these Clubs have great history of their own, would be fun to see more of them lean into it, where possible.

@Driftless_Golf Have you played the Des Moines composite? Now that you have TOC Reverse, alt-routings could be a cool little wrinkle in your search for new courses.. Not like any of these places are hurting for visitor play but seems like a good PR thing when they promote these composite plays.

@YeahClickClack Not nationally known but Des Moines Golf has a composite too from Solheim Cup. Blackwolf as Ben mentioned is my big one. They need to make that a full time course again as front on MV is not it.
