An amended version of the bill designating the Italian beef as the official state sandwich of Illinois unanimously passes a House committee. It now includes language designating Springfield's horseshoe as the state's official open-faced sandwich. Compromise!

@ILMeatGuy Dude it was like $15K freshman year just to live in the dorm… which is mandatory.
I think my cheapest lease was like $650 a month. Let’s say conservatively it only cost me that over 3 years — another $24K.
I’m at like $40K and haven’t included anything but leases.

Even if you’re an “Illinois commitment” recipient, like I was, you still have “skin in the game.”
Many Illinois students go for “free” because international and out-of-state students pay double.
And yes, they are qualified Illinois students. The average ACT this year was a 31.

The University of Illinois President testified on Tuesday in the IL Senate that 41% of his students pay no tuition or fees. Who are the students that pay nothing? No one asked in committee. At what rate do they graduate and what do they study? What's their citizenship status? I'm certain 42,000 students (student population 101,000) are not in the ROTC program or are merit scholars with near perfect ACT or SAT scores. So many unanswered questions. Needless to say the university president requested more money for this year's budget. How about start with every student having skin in the game?
