If you become chronically ill, many of the people that you are always there for won’t show up for you. They’ll get tired of hearing about it, downplay it, or quietly disappear. Your reality will inconvenience them, and many will choose comfort over caring.

So the care company disabled their key fob access without telling them. Restricted their visits. Complain about the care. Lose access to your loved one. The care industry has apparently decided that the most efficient way to handle complaints is to eliminate the complainants. In South London, a woman raises concerns about unexplained injuries and cuts on her niece. The council tells ITV News her niece is "happy and thriving." The visits are once a week, 4 to 7pm only, with seven days written notice, two staff watching from opposite ends of a table. Happy and thriving. 109 charities are now calling for Gloria's Law, which would give vulnerable adults the legal right to name a care supporter, a family member or friend who cannot simply be removed when the care company finds them inconvenient. Care Rights UK (@CareRightsUK) CEO Helen Wildbore put it plainly: the power sits entirely with the companies and councils. Families don't know where to go. They don't know the rules. Husband, 50, jailed for 26 years after pouring boiling oil over wife's head and branding her face with red-hot skillet while she made him an omelette Raju Mollah attacked his wife Mrs Mumtaz at their home in Small Heath, Birmingham, on January 12 2025 after asking her to cook him an omelette. He heated oil in a frying pan, then grabbed her hair and poured the burning hot oil over her head and face while she turned away to wash a utensil. Mollah then struck her repeatedly with the frying pan and a metal frame from the gas cooker, rammed a red-hot skillet onto her face to brand her skin, banged her head against hard surfaces, shoved a mop into her face and stamped on her head multiple times. She suffered horrific burns, a fractured nose, missing teeth and permanent disfigurement but survived the unprovoked assault. Birmingham Crown Court convicted him of attempted murder and he was jailed for 26 years with an indefinite restraining order.

I've never had it, so I have no idea what it's actually like, but it really does irritate me to absolute fuck when politicians talk about anxiety and depression as if they mild inconveniences. They can be incredibly debilitating for people. And in cases where impacts are milder, people don't qualify for disability benefits. If there are people with mild anxiety who qualify for disability benefits, it's because they have something else as well which has a severe impact on their life. I know this because benefits are based not on named conditions and disabilities, but the impact of those conditions on each individual claimant.

This is how broken dental health is in the UK right now. 👇 A few weeks ago I badly cracked two teeth. Couldn’t find an NHS dentist anywhere, so I’ve been holding them together with a DIY filling. Finally got seen today. I told them: I’ve already lost 3 teeth. If you pull these two, I literally won’t be able to chew food anymore. Their response? A shrug. Then came the quote: root canal + two fillings = £1,699. I asked what happens when the rest of my teeth start collapsing (because they will). ‘Teeth implants. £2,500 each.’ So…I’m looking at eventually replacing ALL my teeth. Zero chance I can ever afford that. No wonder so many Brits have fucked-up teeth. How is this acceptable in 2026? 😡
