Tom, I'm probably a distant ethnic Anglo-Saxon cousin. Don't behave so cheekishly in the public square. Be honorable. You know what you were doing. Never lie. You know the powers you believe in see what you did. And a lot of guys who like you told me in another forum they were surprised by your tone-deafness. I'm not, because I know it was deliberate because you dislike Joel's trajectory. I still consider it a low class move to trivialize his treatment.

Solitary is horrendous, I only spent 2 days there and it was hellish. So glad Joel is back with his family now.

If the brain is damaged, you can’t properly interface with reality, or even really think. Split brain is your controller going haywire, but still being able to semi-function. Gene Wolfe wrote a pretty good sci-fi story, The Death of Doctor Island, with a split brain protagonist

The fact that surgically severing the connection between the brain’s hemispheres essentially results in two separate “beings” inhabiting the same body, but they choose to cooperate despite differences in opinion, seems like it warrants a lot more explanation

Who cares what they would have thought? They weren't the great innovators that American public school say they are anyway, Washington, Franklin and Madison were basically English gentry planters with conventional contemproary Whig party views. Jackson, Wilson and FDR were the real brains behind the modern American Hegemon, and today's American legal system and democracy.

@jeremykauffman To be fair to Dan, he thinks he's more effectual as a megaphone. It's not like he doesn't have sources to translate to the public. That you didn't obviously appreciate that is probably why he was like, "Fuck this guy," and blocked you.

worth it

Months in solitary has been shown to cause PTSD that stays with a person for years. Measurable brain effects, vitamin D deficient. It takes them time to readjust. Objectively it really is a form of torture. We all like to think of ourselves as tough asses, but you sit in a pitch black room for thousands of hours with nothing to do and no one to talk to and you see how your mind starts to act. Political actors will claim it's for their safety, but they know what they're doing with their sadism. This will only further radicalize him and tune his methods. Very gratuitous, indulgent, and foolish. They think they're baiting, but they're really conflagrating. It would have been wiser to engage his arguments in good faith. That's deradicalization done well. But of course they don't want what policy changes might result.

Your body breaks down and without social interaction for days, the mind starts to hallucinate. Solitary people often talk to themselves. We're social animals and you're exhibiting it right now by even wanting to argue with the above guy. If you believed solitary is good you could sign off of the internet forever and live in the woods.

Nobody wants to talk about entitlements. They want to scapegoat other items like foreign aid (tiny) and have their cake and eat it too, up to the day our bond market crashes. The average American citizen, to the extent they think about it at all, believes the status quo is sustainable and has historically punished principled budget hawks at the polls. We're not a serious, mature people but at least our military institutions are. It and some tech are about the only thing still prestigious in this land. So many self-absorbed fools everywhere else.

@Mister_Peabody @bonchieredstate The cost of these military operations isn't that high, and the net cost even lower when we do a full accounting with the benefits. The big thing weighing on the budget is entitlements.
