@ComicMelon @JtVoiceover Aren’t normalization and makeup gain the same additive effect? With normalizing, you just control the product rather than the sun amount.

@JtVoiceover Avoid normalization unless you really need it, aim for proper levels. A typical workflow would be cleanup, subtractive eq, compressor + makeup gain, additive eq, de-ess, some people will use a gain rider or adjust clip gain at the end if you can't target with the compressor step.

I'm getting better but still grapple with this occasionally. Sometimes normalizing just adds more problems.
