Last week I attended @RenewablesAssoc's Alberta Energy Storage event and moderated a discussion with Michael Law. Key takeaways: - Batteries are the “Swiss army knife” of the power system - More variability from wind, solar, and large flexible loads is increasing the need for batteries as a grid “shock absorber” - Alberta’s market design is evolving, with new tools for batteries (FFR+, R30) and locational pricing As always, CanREA hosts great events and excellent networking. #wind #solar #storage #BESS

Check out my conversation with Bruce Lourie as part of the FutureEconomy.ca series, we cover climate, geopolitics and the future of Canadian energy. The conversation is hosted by John Cook, Senior VP & Portfolio Manager at Mackenzie Investments
TheFutureEconomy.ca@FuturEconomy

If US climate politics wobble, does that mean the global energy transition is stalling? In this episode of the Future of the Energy Transition Series, Bruce Lourie, President of the Ivey Foundation, warns that Canada should not be spooked by the US flip-flopping, and should stay the course on renewables and electrification. Bruce Lourie, C.M. is joined by Jackie Forrest, Executive Director of the @arcenergyinst , and the conversation is hosted by John Cook, Senior VP & Portfolio Manager at @MackenzieInvest. Presented by Mackenzie Investments. Watch the full episode: lnkd.in/evvhZ98N #EnergyTransition #ClimatePolicy #CleanEnergy #CanadaEnergy #COP #GlobalEnergy #EnergyInfrastructure #LongTermThinking

It remains uncertain whether a two-week ceasefire will actually reopen the Strait. Regardless, the past 40 days have reinforced a long-term imperative for #oilandgas importers to diversify supply. Canada has a clear opportunity, if we can build West Coast infrastructure. On this week’s podcast, we examine progress on the Canada–Alberta MOU and pipeline development with guest @ddyedlin #ARCenergyIdeas @PTertzakian
ARC Energy Research Institute@arcenergyinst

This week’s #ARCEnergyIdeas podcast: @ddyedlin, CEO of @CalgaryChamber, returns to unpack the Canada-Alberta MOU, geopolitics, oil prices, and why it’s critical for Canada to build infrastructure to expand oil and gas exports to Asia arcenergyinstitute.com/progress-on-th…

Canada’s opportunity to expand oil production and pipeline infrastructure to tidewater was the focus of a @CERAWeek panel yesterday at the @NRCan Canada House, including the 300,000+ expansion of the TransMountain and the potential for the 1 MMB/d oil pipeline to Asia. Production growth is expected from Alberta's oil sands and conventional resources, and from the Bay du Nord project in Newfoundland and Labrador, which has just taken a step forward with an important agreement. Key message: Canada is back! Thank you to Honourable Brian Jean (@YourAlberta Minister of Energy and Minerals), Jim Keating (CEO, Oil & Gas Corporation of Newfoundland & Labrador), Mark Maki (CEO, @TransMtn), and Jeff Lawson (EVP, Corporate Development & Chief Sustainability Officer, @cenovus) for the conversation! #CERAWeek #cndpoli

This week, our guest on #ARCEnergyIdeas podcast is the Honourable @timhodgsonmt, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. @NRCan
We recorded this conversation in Houston at #CERAWeek, hosted at NRCan’s Canada House. CERAWeek is one of the premier gatherings of the global energy industry.   It is an important place to sell #CanadianEnergy. Canada offers a stable supply with a geographic advantage to strengthen energy security for our allies.   Canada has a unique chance to position itself as a true energy superpower at this moment, for both clean and conventional energy, in a world where secure, responsible energy is of great importance.   @CERAWeek #oilandgas #nuclear #renewables #cndpoli Hear the conversation: arcenergyinstitute.com/this-is-our-mo…

I will be at #CERAWeek in Houston next week. I’m also excited to share that we’ll be recording an #ARCEnergyIdeas podcast with the Honourable @timhodgsonmt, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources @NRCan . If you can’t make it to Houston, you can catch the episode when it drops on March 25. If you are at CERAWeek, be sure to visit Canada House and Alberta House to learn more about Canada’s energy story (see the events below), which showcases the country's strengths in both traditional oil and gas and clean energy. Canada, Alberta, and our other provinces offer abundant, low-cost energy with strong energy security advantages, attributes that are more valuable than ever: #LNG #renewables #nuclear #oilandgas #renewables #wind #hydro #energystorage  #cndpoli #abpoli

There’s no debate: Canada needs to grow the economy. This week on the #ARCEnergyIdeas podcast, we dig into new research from @atbfinancial and Studio.Energy that quantifies the GDP and jobs impact of expanding oil pipeline capacity. Spoiler: it’s significant, long-lasting, and delivers a powerful one-two punch. First, capital investment boosts GDP. Second, increased capacity drives stronger exports, and therefore GDP. #ARCEnergyIdeas @PTertzakian Mark Parsons
ARC Energy Research Institute@arcenergyinst

This week on #ARCEnergyIdeas, we review research from @atbfinancial & Studio.Energy on the potential impact of new oil pipeline capacity. They make the case that investment in export-oriented business can make a big contribution to the economy arcenergyinstitute.com/what-1-5-milli…

Uncertainty about when tankers will start transiting the Strait of Hormuz again created an oil price roller coaster this week, with WTI price reaching $118/B on Sunday, and then falling quickly to the mid-80s on the potential for SPR releases and  comments from the US President suggesting that the conflict could be nearing an end. This week, Peter and I review the long list of breaking events in the Iran war, and add the Canadian context on #ARCEnergyIdeas podcast arcenergyinstitute.com/strait-of-horm…

The Strait of Hormuz, has long been a key risk for the oil and gas markets, but it has never been closed for an extended period, at least not in modern times. Now markets face that worst-case scenario While the outlook is highly uncertain, we explore possible outcomes this week on the #ARCEnergyIdeas podcast. One implication seems clear: Canada’s role as a stable energy supplier, without reliance on major chokepoints, has become even more valuable, provided we can build pipelines to tidewater @JosefSchachter @PTertzakian
ARC Energy Research Institute@arcenergyinst

War with Iran has effectively halted shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints. What could this mean for oil, natural gas, & Canada? @JosefSchachter, author of Schachter Energy Report joins #ARCEnergyIdeas arcenergyinstitute.com/iran-war-oil-p…

Here are some of the questions we asked Sean Strickland from @CDNTrades on this week's #ARCEnergyIdeas: Do we have enough trades workers to build all the major projects being advanced at once? How mobile is labour? Can TFWs help? What are workforce demographics and remote work realities? @PTertzakian

Mark Carney says Canada must “build at speeds not seen in generations.” Do we have the skilled workforce to deliver? Tune in to #ARCEnergyIdeas with Sean Strickland of Canada’s Building Trades Unions @CDNTrades #cndpoli arcenergyinstitute.com/building-at-re…
