@BrachyZoid We did see what happens if they interfere too hard. The whole time freeze and giant death beams. So taking a villain or softlocking the hero somewhere may not permantely stop the gameworld. There's some power out there making sure the hero fights the villain and wins/loses.

There's something about Gameoverse that I can't wrap around my head. What's stopping the bad guys from just spamming one planet until the hero wins? do the planets reset if the hero dies until they succeed? does Kit and her organization win by letting evil run rampart?

@CommentaryNope @PolishTamales So, for both of them to try and coexist, they are gonna cannibalize players from each other. When your own players are fighting each other over who gets content, you fucked up as a studio. One will be cancelled, and the other will limp along, with a fractured playerbase

@CommentaryNope @PolishTamales Both Destiny and Marathon target the same audiences. The only audience difference is that Destiny is more heavily story focused, and Marathon targets the already extremely niche Extraction Shooter Genre.

🚨IT'S HAPPENING! BUNGIE CIVIL WAR! First 4chan, now Reddit. What started as accusations of idle log-ins has escalated into outright demands that Bungie prioritize support for Destiny. With resources clearly split, the big question is: How is Bungie supposed to save both?

@girlfailurepro @Styx022 @rodeorosebud Exactly. Each of the DEADLY sins are portrayed as not actually being that sin, both in writing and design. Ozzi is supposed to be Lust, but cares about Love. Satans supposed to be Rage, and has an anger manager. Only Sin that is portrayed correctly is Mammon.

@Styx022 @rodeorosebud Sure, maybe if she was an interesting character. Why would she need to "lure people in"? All she's doing is hosting parties while discouraging overconsumption, which is LITERALLY what gluttony is, meaning she doesn't represent gluttony in her design OR her writing.

@alphasolarix @DrBennyRush @mhp_guy Just from the photo, I'd hate driving that. Narrow road, super high above the water, that then gets lower to the point you drive into an underwater tunnel. One mistake or dumbass driver, and you are drowning underwater. Fuck that.

This guy makes six figures driving people across a bridge they're too scared to drive over themselves. He charges $40 cash. 10 to 30 clients a day. Some have been paying him daily for years. He meets them at a truck weigh station, hops in their car, drives them across in four minutes, and gets driven back by his assistant to do it again. The alternative route takes four hours through Baltimore. Here's what's wild... and possibly a little concerning: He said Airline pilots have used his service. His wife even makes custom eye masks that say "I hate this bridge." Steven Eskew has been running this business for years and has made tens of thousands of trips. I'll let you do that math. There's a business for everything. I promise you.

@SpinosaurusBHG @anime_daily In a couple episodes, Aang created head sized pockets of air to breathe underwater. In theory, yeah Air Benders could 100% make an airtight suit of air to space walk and live. I think it'd be the cold/getting to space that gets them before lack of breathable air would.

@HAmorata I'm a straight white guy. I loved Aloy in Horizon 1. I could see the *protect the planet* message everywhere, but she was a character who actually struggled and faced hardships and grew. Aloy in Horizon 2 is a completely different person who went full Gay Girlboss and ruined it

"A lot of the anti-woke crowd doesn’t actually hate politics in games. They hate not being the default anymore." No, we hate that it's all so badly written and obvious that even a fetus could tell that the writer likely has some form of poorly colored hair and at least a minor in Gender Studies. What's amusing here is your sudden attempt to reframe the argument from "gaming stories have always been woke" to "gaming stories were defaulted to anti-woke". No. Gaming stories used to be well written - and while they might have carried an agenda, a political message, or even just created with the idea that this specific type of story needs to be told, it was done in a way that didn't make the player feel like they wandered into the wrong church and now the Preacher is telling them they're going to hell if they don't immediately stop listening to music. That's one thing the "woke" (since we're going with a woke/antiwoke narrative, it's stupid, but it's your framing) doesn't understand. The "antiwoke" don't actually mind being exposed to ideas they disagree with - they just want to have fun. The ONLY reason they care about male protagonists at this stage is because they've had so many badly written, poorly designed, unsubtle, girl-bosses who are really just self inserts that they just can't trust a game that chooses to put a woman in the lead role. Again, not because they hate women. Because they hate being loudly preached at. Which is NORMAL. There are very few gamers who are actually against experiencing opposing viewpoints and ideas. They're just very against their luxury entertainment purchase telling them they're evil for thinking differently in a very blunt, unfun way.
K-Med@K__Med

The "significant backlash" that Saros is getting (we'll see if it's actually significant when we get sales numbers) is making me think. A lot of the anti-woke crowd doesn’t actually hate politics in games. They hate not being the default anymore. For years games catered almost entirely to guys, so a certain slice of players got used to every protagonist looking like them and every story orbiting their comfort zone. Now when a game shifts even a little away from that, they act like the medium has been taken over instead of just growing. What they want is sameness dressed up as purity. They want every game to feel like the ones they grew up with, so they never have to think about who else plays games. It is not about loving games as an art form. It is about wanting the industry to freeze in place, so they never lose their spot at the center. This doesn't go for EVERYONE that might align with that crowd though. There are some valid arguments to be made about shoving stupid shit into games just for representation, but I think most of these dudes are too dumb to think that deep.

@Pirat_Nation The problem really comes from the fact these games sell on steam, like 4-5 years later. All the hypes gone. If they really wanted it, they found a way to play it already, or just watched a streamer play it.

Let’s talk magic, because this is where it really starts to fall apart. In Dragon Age: Origins, magic is a system, not a gimmick. It’s rooted in the Fade—mages can cast spells because they have a stronger connection to it than ordinary people. Spirits and demons are real, possession is a constant risk, and the entire Circle system exists to control that danger. And the variety actually matters. You’re not just “a mage,” you specialize: • Primal (fire, ice, lightning) • Spirit (mana drain, spell disruption, anti-magic) • Creation (healing, buffs, support) • Entropy (hexes, curses, debuffs) • Arcane Warrior, Blood Mage, Shapeshifter, Spirit Healer, etc. Magic is learned, studied, and taught. Mages train in Circles, pass the Harrowing—literally entering the Fade and resisting possession by a demon—and only then become full enchanters. There’s structure, risk, philosophy behind it. And the Veil? When Solas created it, it separated the physical world from the Fade. Without it, it’s heavily implied that magic would be far more common—maybe even universal. That’s why ancient elves were so powerful. Technology, meanwhile, is rare. Dwarves—who don’t have a connection to the Fade—are the ones pushing engineering forward. People like Bianca’s creator (and other surface dwarves) are outliers specifically because innovation is uncommon. Magic and technology are two completely different domains in Thedas. They don’t overlap. And then Dragon Age: The Veilguard comes in and suddenly everything is “ancient magic,” “elven magic,” artifacts that function like tech, and organizations like the Veil Jumpers basically acting like magical containment units. It starts to feel less like a mystical system tied to the Fade and more like… fantasy-flavored technology. Even the basics get weird. If you play as a mage, there are moments that treat magic like something you build or “graduate” with a project—when in the original lore, becoming a mage is about surviving the Harrowing. You don’t craft your way into being an enchanter. You face a demon, or you die. Magic in Origins felt dangerous, spiritual, and deeply tied to the fabric of the world. It had rules, consequences, and identity. Turning it into something that behaves like advanced tech—especially elven tech—doesn’t expand the lore. It flattens it.

@tommygunangels @Lorgarwasright2 I like the current theory that Ghaz and his warband accidently made Yarrick a Living Saint. Makes sense, he needs a Great Foe for his Great Wagh, and the Great Foe can never truely die or the Great Wagh is over, so Yarrick returning no matter what makes sense.

@Lorgarwasright2 Ghazghkull accidentally killed Yarrick decades ago. He just keeps replacing Yarrick with a series of cantankerous old men. So Yarrick (and thus Ghaz's reputation) will never die.

@DanFriedman81 You didn't even get explicit gay stuff like the other games. The issue with that game, and yes I played it, was that the plot was dumb and they took all the darkness, gore, and RPG elements out of it. It was closer to Disney slop than woke slop.

The thing is, having a gay Klingon didn’t help “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” to expand; it caused the entire franchise to contract and collapse in on itself. There are audiences who like gay content. You can make gay shows for gay audiences. You can even sometimes get a breakout hit from a “Heated Rivalry.” But people who don’t want gay content will not consume it. You cannot trick them into consuming it by cramming it into popular franchises or genres. Writers think the audience for “Star Trek” or “Dragon Age” is locked in and will tolerate whatever themes they put into it, but the audience is absolutely prepared to drop these franchises and walk away if they don’t like what they are given. Franchise creatives need to be more respectful of their core audiences.
Fandom Pulse@fandompulse

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy actor Karim Diane defends showrunner Alex Kurtzman: "The fact that Jay-Den is a gay Klingon is not an accident. It was a result of a very thoughtful process. It was because there are people behind-the-scenes including Alex Kurtzman who really believe that Star Trek should expand. Star Trek has existed for 60 years. It's always believed in pushing things forward. In the 60s that looked like one way. In the 90s pushing things forward look different. And today pushing things forward. Again, it always looks different in every single decade. ... But what I can say for a fact, is this, Alex Kurtzman is a hardcore Trekkie. He's a huge fan. I've seen it with my own two eyes. And he has one of the hardest jobs of being the captain of this ship whose goal is to keep this universe alive for a completely brand new generation. ... I love Alex Kurtzman. I admire what he's doing, but he's also just a really nice guy. He's really, really kind. He loves, loves us so much. By us I mean the cast, the crew, the fans. ... He's a fearless leader and lovely human being" Is this why the show bombed?

@Sebbywebz FF12's story and bosses are so forgettable, I beat the game 3 times, and couldn't remember a single detail about the story or characters. And yet, it still holds a place as my favorite FF game because it's the first one I ever played.

@makro_art @SmashJT They needed 15-22X that. They needed an estimated 7-11 Mil sales based on an estimated $200-$300 Mil budget. 4-6 Years dev time. 300 devs during prime development years, 100k-140k yearly dev pay in Washington where studio is located. 500k Sales is a death sentence.

@SmashJT It's not an unusual downturn for the first few days. The initial 80k max and the lack of first weekend increase is the real issue. 450k sales for a PC shooter of this size is a studio killer. They needed 4x that at least.

@cajun_kilted The game won't survive off 150k players across all platforms. Based on an easy estimate, they needed to sell 7-11 mil copies. The fact they haven't made a single post celebrating sales, like every other games does at 1 mil sales or players, means it missed the mark.

@JackofDecks @digitalTodd @wwarrior_1 Yeah the D2 playerbase hate this game. D2 is a PvE FPS MMO Lite with story and campaign. This is a PvP FPS Extract Shooter, that since production began, caused an extremely notable decline in D2 Content quality and quantity. Bungie abandoned D2 players for this game.

somebody did post on my feed - its a slow bleedout. its arguably a worse position. at least the highguard devs will probably whine their way into failing upward by blaming it on the chud gamers. this game? its cursed to awkwardly compete with ark raiders while dying a slow death day by day until it gets sub 1000 players and then *pooof* like a fart in the wind its gone, but the stench of companies chasing live service remains. "destiny died so marathon could limp" i forgot who said it but it feels real.
