@PaulNHarper That’s very kind of you Paul. There are serious-minded comments here as well as abusive ones

“Dozens of towns that bear the scars of Pakistani grooming gangs” writes Sam Bidwell in this long post There may indeed be “dozens”. Can Bidwell name 24+ British towns where grooming gangs operated and in every case justify it is accurate to label them as “Pakistani” gangs?

@JoshNeicho @DaveAtherton20 @CDP1882 @lizziedearden What would be the primary purpose of asking for four more examples to really hit two dozen? Especially considering you’re ostensibly a journalist with internet connection? It’s because he didn’t use the word “predominately”? That’s really what this is all about?

You wrote @JoshNeicho querying “dozens” of towns white girls were r*ped by mainly Pakistani heritage men, the authoritative Charlie Peters @CDP1882 said he knew of 50. Firstly it still goes on today. In 2019 @lizziedearden in the Independent reported "18,700 suspected victims of child sexual exploitation." Lessons clearly have not been learnt. Anecdotally in Telford grooming has been delegated to informing local community officers to keep an eye out. (1) If you want to understand the sheer scale, Labour MP @SarahChampionMP commented in 2015, "Child sex abuse gangs could have assaulted ONE MILLION youngsters in the UK". (2) Peter McLoughlin in his book "Easy Meat" puts it at a more "modest" 500,000. (3) The title is from a comment by Labour's former Home Secretary Jack Straw that Pakistani heritage men saw the white girls as "easy meat". (4) It seems horrific that some imams encouraged the abuse of girls, some of the Muslim community, like Admiral Nelson put their telescope to their blind eyes. (5) The police & social workers were scared of being called "racist" or "Islamophobic" if they did their duty. (6) The mainly Labour Councillors adhered to the above but in the light that 80%+ of Muslims vote Labour, they had added incentives to cover up the horrors. The Blob's attitude is best summed up by a parody Owen Jones account which said "Those abused girls in Rotherham & elsewhere just need to shut their mouths. For the good of diversity.” (7) People are still in denial, loads of whataboutery & even victim blaming. Your response is partially why it went on for up to 3 decades. Shame on you, facts don't have feelings. @sam_bidwell @DaveAtherton20 @CDP1882 @lizziedearden Dave Atherton has referred to “mainly Pakistani grooming gangs” which is a more accurate description of the make-up of these gangs in individual towns and across the UK than your original of “Pakistani grooming gangs”. I would accept Dave’s characterisation as broadly fair

@DaveAtherton20 @CDP1882 @lizziedearden Thank you for letting me know, David. I would like it on the record that the nub of my query is about Bidwell referring to “Pakistani grooming gangs” rather than eg predominantly Pakistani grooming gangs

Thank you - 4 more please to justify “dozens” What about the breakdown of the national origins of men convicted of sex offences in these gangs to justify “Pakistani” - you wrote this, not for example “predominantly Pakistani”

@guy_herbert I mean to be fair to Barry, he’s absolutely right that grooming gangs were scandalously overlooked by national media and not addressed in public discourse for far too long

@Lara_Flyingminx @sam_bidwell @sundersays @HJS_Org @JewishNewsUK The exact question asked in the poll on pictures of the Prophet Mohammed was whether British Muslims would find it “desirable” or “undesirable” if this was banned in the next 20 years. I think that’s a subtly different Q to whether they support a ban or not
