With due respect, the claim that Vardhaman Mahavir or Shri Gautam Buddha “created a vacuum in Kshatriya dharma” is historically and philosophically incorrect. Before Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, there were 23 Tirthankars, many from Kshatriya lineage. The 1st Tirthankar, Bhagwan Rishabhdev (Adinath), is traditionally credited with establishing social order, and from his son Chakravarti Bharat, this land came to be known as Bharat. So renunciation from Kshatriya lineage is not deviation - it is part of a much older spiritual tradition. Even within Hindu texts, renunciation by Kshatriyas is well established: • Mahabharata shows kings embracing Vanaprastha and Sanyasa • Bhagavad Gita 18.66 - “Sarva dharman parityajya…” (ultimate renunciation of all roles) • Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.4.22 speaks of detachment and realization of the Self These are not seen as abandonment of duty, but higher evolution of consciousness. Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, born a Kshatriya, fulfilled worldly responsibilities and then renounced, attained Kevalgyan, and only then preached. His message of Ahimsa is not weakness - it is rooted in the nature of the Self. Both Jain and Hindu philosophies agree: 👉 The Atma is pure, detached, and non-violent in its true nature • Chandogya Upanishad 8.7 - the Self is beyond harm and untouched • Gita 2.19–21 - the Self neither kills nor is killed Therefore, Ahimsa is not a “deviation,” but a realization of the highest dharma. To suggest that Mahavir “weakened Kshatriyas” ignores history. The real decline of Kshatriya values is much later - through indulgence, internal conflicts, and loss of discipline, not because of spiritual teachings. Renunciation is not escape. We already know Chanakya was a Dakṣiṇa/Deccani Brahmin. But here’s the part people don’t talk about. In Somadeva’s Kathāsaritsāgara, the legendary origin of Pāṭaliputra itself begins with a Brahmin from Dakṣiṇa Bhārata who migrates north to the Gaṅgā. From his lineage comes Putraka, who marries Pāṭalī and establishes the city hence the name Pāṭaliputra. So in Sanskrit literary memory, it’s not just individuals even the founding imagination of the imperial capital of Magadha carries a Dakṣiṇāpatha imprint. The pattern is clear: From intellectual architects like Chanakya to even the mythic genealogy of Pāṭaliputra itself Dakṣiṇa Brahmins are consistently present at the roots of power, statecraft, and civilization in North.
