The answer to this is in The Problem of Pain by CS Lewis. And in on the free Choice of Will by St. Augustine. I could mangle both of these and try to sound smart (or have Grok) summarize it. But the subject isn’t a 280 char candidate. If I were to tell you it is because trials drawn us closer to God I don’t think that would resonate. I could differentiate between moral and natural evil, but it wouldn’t explain why there is a distinction. If you want to understand the Christian view of God in the face evil, those two sources are a solid start. Lewis presents a strong case for atheism (because he was prior) before countering it. I went into them already believer and assuming there was a good reason, so I’d be curious what your take is.

one place I deviate from the christian view of god is around the problem of evil/suffering/etc. either god is not omnipotent or god wants evil and suffering, and things get incoherent quickly if you go down the latter path so it seems god must not be omnipotent
