Dad. Artist. Game Dev. Thinking out loud about AI, art, and consciousness. Notes from the machine age.

While AI has been mostly awesome, it's encouraged some bad behavior. - lawyers are using AI to spam corporations with more garbage lawsuits - students cheat using AI, and teachers have outsourced their entire job to AI - 30% of the web is AI slop - codebases are being infested with AI slop The human-in-the-loop is the problem. Quality will increase when AI uplevels itself and is able to work in an autonomous manner without needing humans.

it's funny that we might be closer than ever to all the left's marxist dreams: post-scarcity, end of wage labor, etc. but many of them still won't take AGI seriously. the thing that could actually deliver it. instead it's denial and cope.

Klein: They are in a race to reach something that they call AGI. I agree that it is a revolutionary technology, that it is going to transform our economy on the scale of the Industrial Revolution. But unlike the Industrial Revolution, which created huge numbers of jobs, the goal of this revolution is to eliminate jobs.

Actually this is correct and I'd go further. Beyond PR, the moral move is for big labs to start heavily investing in UBI lobbyists, thinktanks, whatever, to mitigate the risk of economic upheaval. A better world is possible!
