@Ziegler_Dev This balance change is awful, if it is to change the meta I wouldn’t care but it is a specific gun not the overrall meta. I am assuming this includes headshots and point blank range, which is truly insane. Might as well remove the shotgun from the game at this point.

UPDATE: WTF WSTRs We're gonna take a shot at bringing the WSTR more in line. Right now it's become a dominant option and is eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game. SOOOOOO... as of Tuesday 4/21 (likely 8AM PT) the WSTR will no longer be able to down an enemy player who has blue shields or above with two shots. The ideal is that in a majority of cases this will force a reload in scenarios where the target has a blue shield, allowing for some more counterplay in these scenarios. What Will Change: - Change will go live Tuesday 4/21 in the morning. Likely 8AM PT. - WSTRs can still down a green shielded target with 2 direct shots at short rang - WSTRs will no longer be able to down a blue and above shielded target with 2 shots at short range. We're still keeping an eye on a variety of balance issues. Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming and we'll keep hammering at it.

uhhh @MarathonDevTeam the problem with the implant icons was that different types of implants had the same appearance, not that head / chest / legs icon needed to be redesigned this is a genuinely perplexing visual change LOL

@UndineImpera @parv33z @YT_Solo Tbf didnt Halo have tricks to get an edge over the competition? Like BxR and rocket jumps and knowing the spawns and how they rotated so you could spawn kill the enemy. Tryhards always been a thing, but like the OP said people just got really docile and whiney.

I should have clarified what I meant by "competitive" in quotation marks, both old school Halo and CS 1.6 were competitive, that's not my issue, I have a problem with "competitive" games, where the games are super unbalanced and easily exploited, making it so that people who learn "tricks", whether it's movement tech, a broken champion, or an op gun, they just outcompete everyone else. The way people used to play CoD Modern Warfare is just so so different from the way people play it nowadays, it just became a bizarre twitch shooter. And so do most modern "competitive" games.

Streamed Marathon to one of my closest friends that I used to trio Trials with and he stopped watching within 5 minutes and just said it was ugly and that they should have made Destiny 3 instead. Does the art style really filter people that badly?

@slimeykhan @crescenswings Its not. Marathon is just the most recent game on the "chopping block". And people do this weird thing where they warn/threaten that if the game doesnt change X thing that THEY want then the game will die. Its baby behavior lol.

@crescenswings I just don’t understand how this is a Marathon problem only. Every multiplayer team game has this problem ever so maybe I’m just uninformed but how do other games handle this issue aside from ranked systems and sbmm??

If anything kills Marathon it's going to be that playing without a premade team is miserable

Shooter updates - little amounts of meaningful content (you only get new maps, some new guns, new skins and maybe new heroes/ operatives). It's every shooter that is like that. You won't get system overhauls, new mechanics, balance changes, new utilities and very often you won't get anything meaningful that would add-up to the game. It's basic stuff.

Ignore this if you are just gonna reply dead game lol But I am curious to discuss with people why yall think Marathon is still losing players. I truly believe it was going to stablize. Is it too hardcore or are players just bored of the gameplay loop? If you have fallen off Marathon I want to hear from you!

@zorbiqq69 It doesnt take 10 hours. More like 2. Also, Crimson Desert ACTUALLY takes about 10 hours for people to enjoy it. I even heard some say 20ish hours...which is insane.

Marathon being a free to play game would have made it MUCH more popular. People don’t wanna pay 40$ to “try” out a game that gets good 10 hours in

@BringBackBanjoK @Kloktklo Then what about shows like the wire? Most people hate the 2nd season but its a needed season so people get the bigger picture of the show and its themes. Sometimes a game needs that time for u to mesh with it. RDR2 is another example. Just being fair here.

@Kloktklo Usually that’s for a specific reason though. Writers change or get better. Budget increases to make production less rough. New actors or more coherent plots etc can all happen between seasons. Those things don’t really happen apply to a single game.

My coldest take is if your game sucks for its first 8 hours then it sucks period.

@solgob_ This game takes more work than a fighting game, which is where I come from. Although the competitive gamer in me gets a little salty I can’t keep up with the grinders, it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the game. I do think there is a casual side to enjoy, just gotta be at peace…

Marathon from the viewpoint of a competitive-spirited gamer that is older: Marathon is a very good game. I don’t consider myself a “sweat” these days but I have competed in shooters at a high level my entire life, always reaching the top ranks in games like Halo, StarCraft, Warcraft 3, CS, League of Legends and Apex. As well as attending LAN tournies in a few of those games. (Also currently loving Deadlock) I would have been absolutely in love with Marathon as a young fellow with more time to spare, as some of you probably are. I’m 35 now, on top of all of my responsibilities, I have like two hours a day on average to play video games. Some days, zero. And the following point is why Marathon will never be huge and might actually suffer greatly and ween off. Which genuinely makes me sad. It is simply too time consuming and unforgiving. I can’t even imagine trying to play this game as someone who isn’t inherently talented at shooters but still plays them for fun. It’s probably so brutal that it simply isn’t worth your time. While Cryo Archive is SO sick, it is a perfect example of this. I guess I’m just worried that one of the best multiplayer games I’ve ever played is going to suffer from the thing that also makes it so cool. 😂 I would love to be wrong and for Marathon to go on and gain a larger playerbase and keep releasing badass content for years.
