The civilian settlers including the Argentine gauchoswere specifically invited and encouraged to stay and keep their jobs. Many did, and some lived out their lives there for decades.

Spain brought the islands to France then expelled the British and ruled until 1811 FROM BUENOS AIRES.
In 1820 Argentina retake Malvinas until 1833.
