@yuanyi_z He probably figures, correctly for now, that they'll just surreptitiously mutter about it, not take any sort of principled stand. But if/when his popularity wanes, they'll likely rediscover some semblance of a spine, once there's no real cost to having one.

@JeanPFournier Does it not say something about Carney, though, that he chose to run with this team and now seems frustrated to be stuck with them? I think every party needs a cyclical timeout from power to renew and reset. He chose to run before the Liberals had theirs.

The hard truth is that these MPs owe their entire jobs to Carney, whether they like it or not. They don’t seem to understand that their concerns are what almost brought them to ruin. If these MPs are truly concerned, they should just leave. Carney will not change policy for them

I have this feeling like it's going to be a really weird summer. Lots in flux, like summer 2020, when a lot of unsettled things started to come into negative focus, particularly as we headed toward the end of summer/fall. Anyway, beautiful day for mild dread!

@ronmortgageguy The housing crisis is only a supply problem insofar as there isn't enough supply at prices people can afford. Too much has been bought up by investors. If prices keep going down, we may find we have enough supply after all.

@annafoat @ManyBeenRinsed @fordnation I know some testing through walk-ins is restricted partly because there's less continuity of care, and some use this to doctor-shop for tests they want. Not saying that's your case at all - I just know that's part of why those restrictions exist, to limit unnecessary testing.

This is the political class in one headline: Run the country into debt for over a decade, blow money on every boutique ideology, consultant racket, subsidy scheme, failed program, foreign cheque, and bureaucratic empire, then suddenly discover “fiscal responsibility” when it is time to cut seniors. No. Start with Ottawa’s waste machine. Cut MP salaries. Cut the consultants. Cut the corporate welfare. Cut the bloated bureaucracy. Cut the ideological departments. Cut the vanity climate spending. Cut the foreign virtue-signalling cheques. Cut the CBC. Cut MSM subsidies. Cut the programs that do nothing except employ people who write reports about programs. But elderly benefits? That is always where the technocrat brain goes first. Not because it is smart. Because seniors are easier to guilt than bureaucracies are to fire. Canada does not have a “seniors are too expensive” problem. Canada has a government-is-too-bloated problem. The same crowd that told us endless borrowing was compassion now wants Grandma to pay the invoice. That is not courage. That is cowardice dressed up as accounting.

@Smileyyeg It’s egregious to the point of monstrous. Cutting off OAS to entitled elderly subsidy goblins who do not need it would mean seniors who do need help could get more while we save billions. They don't care. They want it. Suggest paring it back even slightly and the goblins rage.

@merry123459 I love how she worked her natural grey in with all the intricate, bright accents. Reminds me of a friend who went totally grey in high school, dyed it black, but left these cool little strips to work with it, not hide it. People look best when they look like their own person.

@lucijapen I’ve also noticed more broadly that the price gap between what used to be considered a bit higher-end & what used to be average seems to be narrowing (not just for food). Probably more of a mass production amidst changing demographics & a shrinking mid-tier problem in general.

@MustardClem Agree. I think it speaks to what’s happening at the grocery store and societal level… but also my steak prices have been the same the past 3 years and 3 years ago they were pretty consistent with conventional stores. I just don’t think this a cost-of-beef problem

@lucijapen It’s still pretty notable to go from buying direct from farms/meat shares being mostly for the especially persnickety (not judging - this was me) to more people doing it because just casually buying meat is now a bit of a luxury. Not exactly a great societal trajectory, is all.

Not sponsored nor endorsing - but I’ve been subscribed to a meat share for a few years (local, organic)… and beef prices have remained pretty static. If meat is getting expensive go direct to source. Save some pennies or dollars.
