I've come to think that there's no reason not to play this instead of Royal, assuming you want a cohesive RPG experience. Royal has such nonexistent balancing that it drives me crazy. Like the game is fighting you to make itself easier at every turn even if you handicap yourself.

@MordenReiter @CactusFuturist @Griff403 I don't think the movement of terminals is indicative of anything beyond adding importance to the set of terminals in Never Burn Money. People forget about the other terminal, but I consider it part of the same story (which would later become The Pocketknife story in Infinity)

The thing is, this "twist" is already baked into Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3. It's even referenced in ODST and Reach. Three characters outright tell you what's up in Halo 3. It was always there. Halo 2's cut story material here was just yet another [overt] way of spelling it out

In my opinion, I think this twist would've made Halo just another boring Sci-Fi where humanity is actually the super secret ultra awesome best race in the universe responsible for all good and cool things.

In an attempt to get around all of this story development and building 343 wrote the following:
4runners were an alien species competing with ancient humans over a UFC belt called the "mantle of responsibility" which would ordain them as the rulers of the galaxy.
The UFC belt would only be awarded by all powerful space Gods. When the space Gods chose humanity, the 4runners somehow genocided them all and the space Gods remade themselves into the Flood.
Then the 4runners made the rings because the Flood was wiping everything out. When they reseeded the galaxy, 1 specific 4runner encoded in all of humanity's DNA, the creation of Master Chief who would be part 4runner and the salvation of humanity.
They did ALL OF THIS AND MORE, just to get around the "4runners are obviously Human" setup of the first games.

The original big reveal of Halo 2 (which was meant to be long enough that it also contained all of Halo 3) was the Arbiter opening up an ancient Forerunner sarcophagus and seeing a human skeleton inside

@Denit41 @CactusFuturist Not how it works in Marathon btw, I think you're getting it confused with how a rampant AI produces too much data and accidentally fries most hardware because of it.
Rampancy in Marathon happens over time on the scale of centuries, but is accelerated by abusing the AI.

@CactusFuturist No, they aren’t. That’s the point. AI in marathon go rampant with too much information the AI in Halo short out after a certain amount of time. They are objectively different.

Halo 4 is functionally a hard retcon of the entire franchise. It's not the same universe anymore. And no amount of forced sad scenes where a violin plays in the background while Cortana goes through AI-schizophrenia (never how rampany was meant to work) will help it in isolation.

I think the reason that Halo fans hated on Halo 4's story is because they couldn't handle anything with more depth than a shallow pond. "WhAt aBouT HaLO Two!?" They hated that back then too lol (and that's why every character from Halo 2 lost 85% of their braincells in Halo 3)
