From Ilan Schwartz "An oral formulation of amphotericin B could be a game-changer for managing serious fungal infections like cryptococcal meninigitis and histoplasmosis." The invention of a temperature-stable oral amphotericin B formulation by Dr. Kishor Wasan and Ellen Wasan shows enormous promise. I’m delighted that partial funding has been secured to continue its clinical development, starting with where the need is greatest: cryptococcal meningitis in Uganda, in a phase II RCT led by David Meya and David Boulware" @MSF_canada @globalamrmedia @ilanschwartz @CanHealthwatch @WHOEMRO @BogochIsaac @ISNTD_Press @ISID_org @ISAC_world

🚨 Africa’s #malaria fight is facing a dangerous double crisis: shrinking funding and spreading drug resistance. Malaria funding reached only 42% of what is needed annually in 2024, while artemisinin partial resistance is now confirmed in Eritrea, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania. The path forward is clear: stronger domestic financing, local manufacturing, genomic surveillance, regional coordination and faster approval of next-generation malaria tools. This is about protecting access today — and preventing far greater losses tomorrow. 🦟💊🌍 📰➡️ healthpolicy-watch.news/malaria-fundin… ✍️@f_argonaut @endmalaria @MedsforMalaria @WHO @SwissDevCoop @_AfricanUnion @jumuiya @geneva_uganda @KenyaMissionUNG @FancyToo7 @MedsforMalaria #GlobalHealth #Malaria #HealthFinancing #HealthSecurity #AfricanHealthSovereignty #worldmalariaday #EndMalaria

A generation growing up with the HPV vaccine may never face cervical cancer and other HPV-related cancers the way previous generations did. An astonishing medical feat - and a reminder of what science makes possible.

Sepsis Alliance
Sepsis Alliance@SepsisAlliance·
In May, we turn our focus to maternal sepsis, a leading cause of maternal death around the world. Too many lives are lost, and too many survivors face long recoveries, simply because the signs of sepsis go unrecognized or unaddressed. Maternal Sepsis Week (May 10–16, 2025) is a time to raise awareness, demand change, and take action to protect mothers and birthing people before, during, and after childbirth. This month, we advocate for better education, stronger protocols, and a healthcare system that listens and responds! Learn more about maternal sepsis and how you can get involved this month at MaternalSepsisWeek.org. #MaternalSepsis #SepsisAwareness #MaternalHealth #SepsisSurvivor #15YearsOfSAM #SAM15

Africa carries a significant share of the global disease burden, yet remains underrepresented in global health research and development. To help close this gap, Africa CDC is advancing a unified continental framework to strengthen health research governance, coordination, ethical oversight, and sustainable research capacity across Africa. Developed with @_AfricanUnion Member States, National Ethics Committees, and African scientists, the framework marks a key step toward a more coordinated, Africa-led research ecosystem. 👉 Read the framework: ow.ly/x4kT50YMnZr #HealthSecurity

A longitudinal study (n=120) shows that while overall T-cell repertoire features are similar, specific T-cell clones and sequence motifs differ in individuals with #LongCOVID (PASC). ➡️ Contracting clones after acute infection were enriched for SARS-CoV-2 specificity in all, but Influenza A–specific TCRs were overrepresented in PASC, suggesting a role for co-infection or immune imprinting. 1/
