Despite a fear of public speaking, @DuncanYB faced a room of 700+ people for his first public presentation. In this episode, Duncan shares his learning process through writing, how he prepares for presentations, and why he continued presenting throughout his career. @NerdJourney

@joshduffney I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Synology Diskstation (8 bay, 4 or 5 drives at 8 TB, 7200 RPM, RAID 6) for home file storage, podcast file storage, and potentially some VMs for a future lab. I plan to synchronize with Backblaze B2. I'm happy to send you my shopping list.

Part of me wants to be a minimalist and get rid of everything except for what's plugged into my desktop but then the other part just order a new KVM on Amazon... so I guess maybe I need better storage. How are you all storing your tech stuff?

@drgurner @renobelk I agree on starting with yourself. However, I think we each need to consider some kind of struggle tolerance / struggle budget. Take it as far as you can on your own, but decide in advance at what point of frustration or struggle you will seek help.

@renobelk Sometimes you can do a whole lot by yourself. You've got to start there.

The technical exploration of @amyengineer continues in this part 2 of her career story from consulting, to public sector network engineer, and on to Fortinet. And we talk about how project management skills can help the technologist in all of these roles. #career @NerdJourney

@amyengineer is right on point that the packets don't lie. But if you follow them to what you think is interesting to learn and interesting work, it will provide amazing career growth. Keep technically exploring! It was a great conversation. #vexpert #career #networkengineering

@CTOAdvisor The attitude of not being able to create content because you're not an expert is perfectionism in our heads. Whatever we create can't be perfect. By creating something and moving forward on that learning journey (wherever we start), we learn that forward progress is the goal.

You haven't achieved expert-level knowledge of a topic. Therefore, you can't create content about the topic, right? Not so fast. Content consumers appreciate authenticity. There are people on the same journey as you. They want to learn as you learn. It's encouraging to know that someone (you) with just as much or as little knowledge as me (the content consumer) is thoughtful enough to share their journey. Yes, people may have heard, read, or seen the basics before but haven't experienced it through your lens. In a world cluttered with horrible AI content, you have the opportunity to rise above the noise and help someone learn something new to them.

@mistwire Perhaps we feel like other people will care what we think, but I'd posit there is some validation seeking too. If I make noise and someone agrees with me just as strongly, it feels like maybe the decision was more "justified." It's ego.

I think it's it's interesting the we - collectively - have lost the ability to look at something, decide it's not for me, and move on without feeling the need to comment. Why is that? Social media oversaturation?
