The push for blockchain in gaming has to come from gamers and not devs/publishers, which is why it won't happen as long as gamers systematically reject anything crypto-adjacent without a second thought.

Web3 tech does enable a lot of good things in the eyes of enthusiasts and Azuki is trying to grow its brand outside just the web3 bubble. Not sure what the Grok summary says since I don't read them but I see what you mean here. As you said, we'll have to agree to disagree on the merit of web3 tech and your stance obviously does make sense if you believe it is fundamentally bad. You would not want something bad to make its way into a thing you deem good. I haven't had the opportunity to play the game as I'm not located in the US but the way you describe it doesn't make it seem like something I'd like. Will probably just stick to collecting the cards I like from an art pov.

I find these commentaries a bit perplexing, though, because it always seems like the Web3 is a good thing that enables so much, but also doesn't really matter and the game is going to grow beyond it. I don't think with the way the tech surround Web3 works, and with how others engage with it, that's it's positive at all to have Web3 as a foundation of your game. Which is certainly going to lead to disagreements with others who support the tech, but I've explained across many comments now where I come from on that and at some point, we'll just have to disagree and leave it there! I think the big thing that the Grok summary gets wrong about my post is that I don't say it's a Trojan Horse to sell NFTs directly at all - I say that it smuggles a web3 culture into the tabletop gaming space in a way that can normalize it. It might enable it further in the future for Azuki or other companies, and I don't think that's a good thing overall. That is probably something seen as a good thing by proponents, though, and again - just going to be a fundamental disagreement. Regarding the game, I also don't think it's very inspired. It's fundamentally your choice of One Piece of DB Fusion World, with a two row system, a Gate card, and damage to life totals instead of cards. I'm already very lukewarm on Bandai games, and this was structurally so similar that I would not have been able to tell someone else made it. I didn't play enough to have a read on balance but felt like stats were a little off kilter in what I played. But I know people will still have fun with it - it just wouldn't have been something I got into either way.

Alright so every post about Azuki TCG is the same thing. - NFT PFP - Cryptobro "Keep pushing" affirmations - Hyperbolic projections about game's future - Red Gate emoji in post and display name, indicating commitment to the game's cult of followers Then I see this pictured interaction and it all makes sense. I got to try Azuki at GAMA, but I just chose to pull it from tomorrow's video (and reshoot the whole thing). Gameplay wise, it was fine - Tim, who showed it to me, was a very nice guy and I have no ill will towards him. The game played nearly identically to Bandai games - which I told him, and which puts it neatly in middle of the road for me for enjoyment. Not amazing, not bad. And that's what I said about it in my first version of the video. But I can't post that now that I see the goals laid bare. The end result of a TCG should be a fun game played between humans at a table - a social interaction, a strategic contest, and a fist bump at the end. The publisher works to make the game conducive to this on a reasonable scale, we pay them for access to more exciting components to enrich our hobby, and the game continues. Instead, I'm seeing that beautiful social experience being used to smuggle in an IP whose purpose is selling tokens on a blockchain. You can certainly enjoy all of the same elements listed above with Azuki, but in doing so and supporting the game, you're supporting a goal of getting their Web3 side exposure and widespread support. A pawn in a larger scheme. That beautiful experience can be had with any other game on the market that ISN'T trying to eventually normalize selling you a listing on a ledger that indicates you are the one true owner of a jpg. And now that I know better, I would recommend you seek ANY of those alternatives.
