Me: Oh, this honeysuckle smells amazing. Him: How can you smell it with that mask on? Me: Some smells are gas-phase molecules that can get through this kind of mask. Doesn't it smell amazing? Him: I don't know. I haven't been able to smell anything for six years. Me: Really? Him: Yeah. My first covid infection. It's got worse too. The other day our dinner was on fire, and I couldn't smell the smoke. The first I knew was when my eyes started watering, then the alarm went off. 👀

@condomrocket @holo_cene @nonzerosumgain Yup I’d have it just for the pertussis. (My partner has lung damage from whooping cough as an adult, despite prior infection as a child and prior vaccination.) Stupid mistake to be made though.

@holo_cene @nonzerosumgain Also the tetanus part of that vaccine is the only one we have worked about in recent public health history because it's the only disease present in the environment and the other two are, afaik, contagious illnesses. But the whooping cough portion of the vaccine wanes super fast!

The guidance for school ventilation (BB101) has not been updated since 2018. Back in January, the govt gave assurances that: “An updated set of standards will be published in early 2026”. It is nearly June. Where is the updated guidance?! parallelparliament.co.uk/question/10322… @timfarron

Another big issue is that the guidance for school ventilation & building design (Building Bulletin 101) has not been updated since before the start of the pandemic (Dec 2018). That’s over 7 years ago now! Surely a global pandemic should have triggered a review of this guidance?

@1goodtern The last 3 days have had someone burning something resulting in us having to close all the windows. Unfortunately it still seeps in and makes my teens neurological condition worse. AND we boil in the heat. You are right, they are specifically selfish and stupid.

The temperature is over 30° and one of our neighbours is burning a chopped down tree in their garden, filling up all our houses with smoke when closing the windows turns the house into an oven. Some people are just so spectacularly a) inconsiderate and b) stupid.

@1goodtern I’m sorry you are suffering this too. We spent all winter having to keep windows closed from 2pm when a neighbour lights their wood burner & the smoke blows into our house. Finally warmer weather & we are free of that. But no someone else starts with the frequent bonfires…

Incredible speech delivered by Baroness Linforth in the House of Lords today calling for clean indoor air in schools. “It would cost less than a tenner per child per year to provide pupils and staff with clean air - about the same cost as a coffee and a cake.” ☕️🧁

Just a friendly reminder that a few weeks before the lockdowns of 2020, the risk to the public from COVID on a Cruise Ship was “extremely low” according to the WHO and other international public health bodies. They’ll tell you it’s “low” when it isn’t. Worth remembering.

A med student somewhere right now is using AI to cheat through coursework while not understanding: • airborne transmission • asymptomatic spread • incubation • mutation • viral persistence/chronic infection And the system may still hand them the keys to thousands of human lives. That’s the part people don’t want to talk about. We are rapidly automating credentialing while simultaneously downgrading deep understanding. A handful of scientists and clinicians see the danger clearly. I met one last night. I’d like to meet more before this becomes irreversible.
Basel Musharbash@musharbash_b

It is, actually, paying a company to do the work of writing an essay for you. The notion that using AI to write a college essay isn’t plagiarism and cheating is just ridiculous.

@zhouliang_mask @LarissaFanTO Would it be possible to have more profusion away from the chin/mouth? My daughter finds the frame touching the lower part of her face challenging. (Nose fit is good for her) Thank you for continuing to work on this.

@LarissaFanTO The next generation of products will be designed to be "modular," allowing them to adjust themselves to create their own unique mask.

I won't design frames with different bridge heights for every size, as this would exponentially increase the current frame dimensions. I will show you how to easily adjust the frame. For frames with high bridges, we are currently experimenting with a completely new solution (the new design will be announced in two months). If you have a better adjustment solution, please let us know.

I can't change the downward trend in demand for masks in China. But that doesn't change my passion for making masks, or my commitment to continuing this business. The masks we're launching next will once again pique everyone's interest. This is something I believe I can continue doing indefinitely, regardless of mask demand or sales volume.

Future protective masks will undoubtedly be modular. No large mask manufacturer wants to release more masks when global demand is declining, as this would increase R&D and management costs. If masks can be assembled like computers, then everyone can create their own unique mask.

It's the day of the month where I ask myself if I'm crazy to be thinking that people are getting sicker and sicker, and then the NHS Staff sickness absence rate data comes out and the answer is: No, I'm not crazy, and yes, people are just getting sicker and sicker.

@EvonneTCurran @UKHSA Why do they suggest sleeping in the same dormitory is a risk but sharing a classroom isn’t? What makes sleeping or sharing a house different to sharing a classroom or office, which many people do 8hours a day.

@DrNeenaJha Who becomes accountable for harm to the patient when they fall into this limbo of the GP saying the need to be seen by a specialist, but the specialist clinic (as you say “who”) has rejected it. Puts gp’s and patients in a terrible situation.

If a GP, who is a senior doctor, refers a patient to secondary care & the referral gets rejected… We MUST know who has rejected that referral • Their name • Their position (doctor/**non-doctor) It’s a basic requirement & medico-legally this must be mandatory!
Jamie Wallis@jamie_wallis

@drlukeevans @DrJoFranklin We absolutely must know the name and position of the person rejecting the referral. This does not always happen even in the current A&G system. GPs are community equivalents of hospital consultants and anything less than a consultant rejecting a referral would be a travesty.
