Fellow Ugandans, It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of our Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro. Edith passed on after 3:00am today following a hard-fought battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, her dear husband Waiswa remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison for no crime whatsoever. His only crime is speaking out against injustice and misrule. The criminal regime placed on him and others the sham charge of "Unlawful Drilling" which apparently took place on 12th February 2025 at our Party Headquarters. In fact, on that day, Waiswa never stepped there as he was at Mulago Cancer Institute with the wife! The judiciary, fully aware of these facts, has chosen to conspire in this persecution. Waiswa, alongside other comrades, has applied for bail severally. He has variously made an impassioned plea to the Court to be released on bail so that he takes care of his sick wife, but it has been denied. The injustice! As difficult as it is, we remain hopeful that we shall overcome some day. May God grant the family, especially our brother Waiswa, the strength he needs at this time.

UPDATE: A man is alleged to have stormed a daycare and nursery facility at the church moments ago, in Ggaba, attacking children with a sharp object. Early reports alleged that at least four children have been killed, with others injured. @Lukowoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, has confirmed the incident and stated that Abbas Byakagaba, the IGP, is expected to visit the scene shortly.

Why is the circumcision of young boys continuing unabated? Let's examine what global and local policies say about safe male circumcision. In 2007, the World Health Organisation recommended this intervention in East and Southern Africa, following scientific studies showing that it reduces HIV transmission by 60%. The procedure, the policy highlights, is voluntary. By 2023, two countries suggested adding infant circumcision to national programs as a sustainable measure, but WHO guidelines remained strict—defining SMC intervention as a voluntary procedure for adolescents aged 15 years and older. What about Uganda? In Uganda, SMC service providers are not allowed to advertise or influence people into the procedure. So, where did the idea of circumcising young boys come from, and who sold it to parents? Locally, the 2010 Ministry of Health policy integrates voluntary medical male circumcision as a preventive strategy against HIV. This policy requires informed consent. It also allows parents to consent on behalf of their neonates and young boys. A few Ugandan authorities committed to scaling up circumcision coverage to 40% within five years. This is where infants and young boys became the target, with service providers brainwashing their parents into circumcising them—denying these children the right to decide, in the future, whether they and their partners want the procedure or not. Kino kyetuyita okudduka noyita wosula. Circumcision reduces the risks of cervical cancer and chlamydia infection (which causes infertility) among female partners of uncircumcised men. But whether to circumcise or not should be a decision made by both partners. Campaigns promoting condom use, vaccination against HPV, and PrEP ( latest) are available and effective too ( if we are addressing HIV and cancer). As a parent, you can consent on behalf of your child. But this decision violates international human rights standards, specifically the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Remember, Uganda ratified this convention in 1990. The expectation is that the Ministry of Health should intervene in practices that are prejudicial to children. Such irreversible procedures should only be performed when medically necessary and when consent cannot wait. Why is the circumcision of young boys unabated? We shall discuss female genital mutilation later, but allow me to ask: if this were done to infant girls and young girls because it prevents something, would you allow it? Why is the same principle of bodily integrity denied to boys? A child's right to bodily autonomy should supersede parental preferences.
