The Israeli Defense Forces have issued an evacuation order for Beirut’s Jnah area, which includes two major referral hospitals; the Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Al Zahraa Hospital. At this time, no alternative medical facilities are available to receive approximately 450 patients from the two hospitals (including 40 patients in the ICU), rendering their evacuation operationally unfeasible. Both facilities are operating at full capacity, including treating the injured from the strikes of 8 April. This zone also encompasses the @mophleb complex, and hosts five shelters accommodating more than 5000 people. I urge Israel to reverse this order and ensure the protection of all health facilities, health workers, patients and civilians.

Breaking news Forensic Report Recommends Disciplinary Action Against Tshwane Metro Police Chief A forensic investigation has recommended disciplinary proceedings against Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) Chief Commissioner Yolande Faro over her attendance at Chinese New Year celebrations at Sun City in February 2025. According to a report by eNCA, the probe found that Deputy TMPD Chief Nomsa Nhlapo declared a R46,000 accommodation gift on behalf of department members, including Chief Faro. The development comes days after Faro testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where she alleged a smear campaign against her as she fights corruption within the TMPD. During her testimony, she addressed earlier claims including that she had misrepresented her qualifications and received a R450,000 voucher insisting a previous forensic probe had cleared her. Faro previously received a final written warning in December 2025 for failing to disclose sponsored accommodation on the same trip. The TMPD has not yet commented on the latest recommendations. The full forensic report has not been publicly released. The story is developing.

Brent Bozell III has said the United States wants to invest billions in the country but faces a major hurdle with policies requiring businesses to surrender 30% ownership to black South Africans. He raised the issue when he was speaking to journalists in Pretoria while acknowledging the nation's history of inequality. Bozell spoke at a business event in Hermanus. He stated that the United States is ready to pour money into investments, with both the private sector and government involved.
