@Midge1415 @MartinDaubney I want to see them annihilated; they have caused misery, pain, poverty AND death in their tenure. He was right.

@DuncanHenry78 I would laugh my tits off if Burnham did a deal with Starmer and didn't trigger a leadership contest. Starmer vs Streeting would cause me to laugh even harder

I wonder if the media and pundits will recognise this result is clearly saying “for the love of god can we get rid of Starmer” If Burnham hadn’t been touted as the “Starmer remover” he would not have won.

Reform Party UK Exposed 🇬🇧
After throwing everything they have at 3 target Parliamentary by-elections and losing all 3, this is the moment where the media should be saying the Reform UK project isn’t the landslide they got giddy about. Nigel Farage tried: the friend of Nathan Gill, MattGPT and the Pervy Plumber. That’s someone who’s been in politics for years, someone who they claimed was an intellectual political heavyweight and their ‘plucky plumber’. Each one shaped like products. Each one left on the shelf by the electorate.

@SamCoatesSky Manchester is a Labour stronghold. The most labour of all areas yet Reform got close. In a general election labour will only win the big cities. Reform the country. It's over for Labour. Tonight proved it.

Makerfield result Quite remarkable Sky graphic - the “progressive” vote vs the “right” vote * Burnham got more than 50% * Burnham united the progressive vote. * Huge squeeze of other parties. * Reform plus Restore < Labour

@Kieren_MUFC @gingerrtom hahaha like that matters. Labour have a 160 seat majority and reform couldn't get more than 5 mp's without defections 🤣

Labour victory tonight might be the start and The End of Andy Burnham. I will be up all night. Not just because of the World Cup, but because of the drama in Makerfield. Here is the nightmare scenario for Andy Burnham. Restore gets 7%. Reform gets 45%. Labour scrapes through on 48%. Yes, Labour wins the seat. But politically? That is an utter disaster for Burnham. Because if he cannot crush Reform in a Labour seat, with his name, his profile, and all the hype around him, then the unions , Labour MPs and Labour members will not see him as the man to save the party. They will see him as the man who nearly lost Makerfield. Not just for a few months. For years. And that is why Wes Streeting has basically said: “I want to give Starmer over the weekend to resign.” Translation: The knives are out. But so are the calculators.

@R_J_Shaw The UK is in serious trouble IF this is repeated in other labour by elections. If it's just a we love Burnham get starmer out result grim but ok fine, but if after all the terrible things that happened in the following weeks there are still so many loyalists it's pretty bad news

Regardless of the result in Makerfield, it’s utterly racked off. Over 41% of eligible voters didn’t turn up. We can’t say it’s because we didn’t canvass hard enough, we did. We can’t say it’s for lack of options, we are a solid anti-establishment offering and there was every flavour of establishment. We can’t say it’s because of the weather, it was glorious. No, this is voter apathy. I have zero respect for anyone who is apathetic towards the current state of this country. I guarantee you that if all the voters that didn’t turn up had turned up for us… Or indeed for Reform, Labour or any other party, it would have guaranteed whoever they voted for the win. No party is going to secure 41% of the electorate… Which equates to roughly 31,500, or roughly 70% of the turnout. The people of this country need to pull their thumbs out of their arses because if they don’t, we are heading for a civil war AT BEST, if not the complete destruction of our national identity and the subjugation and eventual replacement of our people in their entirety.

@KBothouse @RKHodkinson @donmcgowan People knew voting for Reform at this by election wouldn’t get Starmer out, the only way to get Starmer out was to elect Burnham and have him start a leadership election.

Not even close. Burnham got more votes than all the others combined. So when Farage inevitably tries to blame Restore, this is the only fact you need. Robert Kenyon only increased his vote share by 2.7% since he stood in 2024. That's shocking. Considering the sheer amount of money Reform threw at this by-election, that's a terrible result. An absolutely shocking waste of Christopher Harborne's money! Farage is done. Reform UK are done.

So at what time this morning can we expect Nigel Farage’s resignation? He’s clearly not up to the job. Loss after loss when it really matters, despite taking tens of millions in donations. Sorry Reform, we’re just not that into you.

@MarinaPurkiss With the Peace deal in the Middle East, the defeat of reform in Manchester, am I seeing tiny rays of light at the end of this dark tunnel? I pray so. May God bless our country with true leadership, may He save it from those who preach hatred and may it always be a beacon of hope.
