@stephenRB4 I’m 61 years young and got my first one last month. Glad to contribute to the cause. 😃
English

@ClassicMike6 @ModestTeacher We teach Literacy 165 mins/day. Math 75 mins/day. That time is sacrosanct. We can do nothing else, ever. No art projects, research, or speakers. There’s no fluff. We could get by with shorter days or a 1/2 day/weekly.
English

@ModestTeacher Not sure a 15 percent reduction of instructional time will help kids in the long run. I know the argument is “more focused time”, but my 34 years experience shows that not all teachers will buy into that. The fluff will still creep in. Would this plan be better for teachers? Yes
English

@ModestTeacher And teachers spend far too much of their own time to plan & grade. At least the good ones do.

@MrMetacognition Attaining silence is a difficult task when it’s not required by parents.
English

Insisting on silence in the classroom continues to be controversial; but it shouldn't be.
Students cannot learn where they aren't listening to the instruction of their teacher. Hence, absolute silence is a must.
The relationship between school outcomes, and classroom behaviours is clear and evident.
Yet silence remains so controversial?
English

@RelevantLilly I hear we are going into about a 10 day stretch where snow can come any day here 😬
Enjoy your warm day!!
English

@sage_stage It’s our protocol too, to send the kid back to class. Apparently lice don’t jump so unless the kids is head to head with another kid, others can’t get it. That’s what I was told. 🤮

@JamesAFurey Our Asst Principal told my teammate and I we are NO longer allowed to do novel studies! We’re in 5th grade. She said they’re proven to not help children grow in reading.
English

Schools of America who have decided to cease the study of full novels:
Stop it. Stop it right now.
Also, how dare you?
Steph⭐️ 🏒@S_DINH32
@JamesAFurey Our district no longer allows novel studies. We may do a chapter or two but that is it 🫠
English

@JamesAFurey We decide as a staff what curriculum to adopt so terminology is vertically aligned. How we use it is up to us. With new programs, we spend many a PL, aligning standards with lessons, so we can eliminate some lessons and subsidize if a certain standard isn’t covered.

@drphiliplee1 I’m a teacher and I always want to see the local schools. Was in Cabo San Lucas before it was a tourist destination. We walked the neighborhoods, and stumbled across the open-air school. Fascinating! And yes, I’LL check out the local everything.
English

@educator4ever36 5th grade here-we teach 120 mins/day of literacy, as well as an additional 45 mins of targeted reading instruction. And 75 mins of math/daily. These times are sacrosanct and we are not “allowed” to do anything but what that time is intended for. No crafts, speakers, etc.
English

@Jessicam6946 Yes, I was teaching 5th and 6th graders, we were watching. 😢
English

@MarthaLeah2 @mrmikeMTL Good advice! You are correct!
English

@RelevantLilly @mrmikeMTL Probably the most important thing. Staying active so that you don’t lose your stamina. If you don’t, you get to the point you can’t be active because you have no stamina. The smallest activity wears you out in 5 minutes. I’ll be 88 tomorrow, so I know. Seriously.
