I’m sorry Republicans. Rick Caruso was your chance to get a competent Republican in the LA Mayoral office It says more about the state of the Republican Party in California that they think Pratt is a reasonable candidate.

@racistbilbo @Tr00peRR That’s signals the danger zone has been entered. Be prepared to fight or flee at that moment. Odds of discourse ending the conflict plummet at that point.

@christopherrufo “They don’t “the real history of America” line they’ve been throwing out ad nauseam for six decades is one of the most pugnacious lies in our society. What they call the real history has been the centerpiece of what the system teaches for decades.

@SD_Better84 I remember this post from her, was a surprising break from her usual toe the line rhetoric. Sadly, it didn’t seem to stick. Once in a while these ppl will admit to something true, only to immediately regress to their former ways. Sad.

This sort of ‘belief trumping reality’ seems extremely pervasive among certain groups, often highly intellectual ones, and skews left. I have people come into my bookshop frequently, irate about “banned books.” When I gently push back, asking them what books are banned, or explaining that schools and/or parents sometimes change curriculum but do not ban books per se, I often get blank stares, glazed eyes, a complete inability to engage in conversation that doesn’t align with a particular worldview. When universities overwhelmingly admit and hire students/faculty with very insular and narrow ideas, attempting to shift the status quo even with clear evidence is like (as my dad would say) walking uphill in molasses in January.

Bit surprised this got published. Same for race bias, of course. The mandatory narrative is the exact reverse of reality.

@Dr_Scissorhands @Sargon_of_Akkad Socialism is for whatever gives it most power. Importing voters to create a one party system currently gives them the best chance for that. All the platitudes are just window dressing.

@Sargon_of_Akkad But socialism was always against immigration. Trade unionists absolutely understood that it undercut the terms and conditions of working men.

There's a weird thing on the left which is that you can basically occupy any position on the economy that you like. You can just say "I'm for unlimited migration for big business because of the pensions/NHS" or "I'm for total state ownership of the means of production" etc, and none of it prevents you from being on the left. But you have one opinion on the character of foreigners, or what a woman is, or the limits of state interference in one's life, and suddenly you are far right. There's a greentext about this that tells us much about what leftism is actually about, because it seems to be completely accurate.

I will never forgive HBO/BBC for cancelling this prematurely and rushing the final episodes to wrap it up. They built these amazing sets which they could have used for 10 more seasons and then just scrapped them. And it’s not like they lacked for storylines.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

Rome (2005–2007) genuinely looked bigger and richer than most movies airing at the time. The sets, costumes, crowd scenes, political drama …every episode felt like HBO accidentally dropped a full historical epic onto television every week.

NEW: Spencer Pratt says he will be implementing a three-week 'grace period' in Los Angeles before he unleashes on criminals. Pratt says he will also be bringing in the CDC to combat the "medieval diseases" his city has. "My plan is: First three weeks, signs up across the city. No more nakedness, no more drug use, no more robbing, no more dog abuse." "Then once we start enforcing laws, boom, streets will be back..." "People are just living in feces and drug use and dogs burning... We need these streets cleaned." Video: @theallinpod

authors and storytellers, the people who write the novels that movies are most often based upon, are using AI to go direct to consumer with animation the same way they already do with books and theres no amount of ad hominem attacks, boycotts or protests that will stop them

The quality of animation you can create on your own is truly amazing. We really are just limited by our imaginations at this point. Go tell your story! Made in @runwayml in a few hours and a handful of gens.

Better idea: it’s set during Vietnam. Here’s the plot Julius Caesar is a newly elected populist president. He was a famous general in the Vietnam War and considered one of the best generals of all time, but he gets popular by leveraging that to say the war is stupid and wasteful. (cf “War is a Racket by Gen Smedley Butler). The Elites want the war to continue. He runs on ending the war and bringing the troops home. Further, at this time, like the real timeline, the homeland is in disarray. Riots have broken out across dozens of major cities. Caesar, like Nixon, runs on law and order. He talks about why troops should be dying for some ungrateful rice farmers when they could be at home protecting the American people. He eventually wins in 1968 and does what he promised on the campaign. He manages to get a “peace with honor” too. He doesn’t just flee and let S Vietnam collapse, but manages against all odds to get a good peace deal and the North begrudgingly. He continues to be very popular. The people treat him like a hero. He stages a massive parade in Washington for returning troops, but at one point gets on a float himself and the people chant his name. He holds massive rallies. Several Senators make up the majority party in the Senate and become wary of Caesar. They think he is becoming too powerful and too popular. To make this believable, we will mix in rhetoric that is both anti-tyrant but also self-serving. They think they are going to get wiped out in the midterms. Cicero and Cato are part of this party. Caesar begins to flaunt his power. He begins issuing executive orders under the ruse of law and order. Maybe he’s right. Maybe America does need a strong man to bring peace to the homeland. Cicero and Cato begin talking to generals at the JSOC. While Caesar is well-likes by the “grunt” and common GI, the generals are deeply distrustful of him. Btw this really happened irl - some generals were slow walking Nixon’s decisions and this was shown in some recently released court testimony Eventually Caesar gets word of this plot and declares marshal law. He publicly arrests generals who were conspiring against him, declares them traitors, and has them executed. But here’s the thing - is this a tyrant consolidating power, or is he really just protecting the Republic by eliminating people who were planning a coup against the duly-elected President ? He also fills the streets with soldiers to maintain order. Despite all this he is still widely popular. While there is a size able anti-Caesar faction who protests and riots, his approval rating is in the high 60s. He begins talking about the enemies within. Cicero and Cato make speeches against tyranny in the Senate. Importantly these speeches have to be quite good. Eventually Caesar does a State of the Union address (this would be Jan 1970 or so). While there, he is assassinated. The anti-Caesar faction declare they have saved the Republic. Things cool for a bit, but Mark Antony rallies the pro-Caesar faction at Caesar’s massive funeral and the civil war begins.

Idea: Late Republic Roman and Caesar's civil war but set in modern day America.

@Cernovich It’s perhaps the biggest instance of repressive tolerance in our society. The church is seen as right, so it much be hammered. Public schools is the church of the left, door be protected and covered up.
