Do you want a real explanation of sin? If so, read on:
Sin is not determined by worldly consequences, tho that’s what people understandably assume.
The nature of sin is in acting against God’s will. Acting against God’s will is the sin. So whether you lie about your weight or cheat on your spouse, you acted against God’s will and that is why it was a sin. And since God never gave us a ranking order, we don’t have the equipment to judge person to person - we are called instead to manage our own behavior. It’s not that “all sins are equal”. It’s more “to sin is to sin”. The only distinction is that choosing to sin while aware that it is a sin is worse than sinning accidentally/unconsciously.
