I'm a parent with 3 kids under 5. I want them to grow up in a neighborhood designed with them in mind. I recently learned of a concept called "the 15-minute city". A city where everyone should have access to essential urban services within a 15-minute walk or bike. /1

Did you know the team doesn't even own* the arena? They just have a 40-year rental agreement** *owners have to pay maintenance, taxes, and then of course deal with the inevitably outdated hulk of a building **don't worry about the terms on that deal, trust me it's gonna be fair

One thing I’ve decided during this creative & inspiring week in Paris — it’s time to write my 1st book. On cities & better city-building. Might be 2 books, since I don’t know which of my 2 ideas to do first. Any advice from authors out there? Like should I get an agent or not?

To my fellow Calgarians and Ward 3 residents, Last night, I announced that I will not be seeking re-election in October 2025. This decision came after last night’s decision on Green Line LRT and much deliberation with my family. It’s been an absolute pleasure to represent Ward 3 in City Hall over the past three years. Despite setbacks from the pandemic, we’ve made great progress on some of the city’s biggest strategic challenges. From zoning reform and the tax shift to making transit free for kids under 12 and record investments in affordable housing, I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish. At the Ward level, we advanced the Nose Creek Park Strategy together, renovated the Sandstone MacEwan Rink and got a record number of Traffic Safety improvements installed. None of this could have been done without the advocacy and support of my residents. You make Calgary a great place to live and it’s been a pleasure getting to know so many of you. I’d like to thank my amazing team, Briana & Sarah, for their endless support and dedication to Ward 3. I couldn’t have accomplished this without you, and the many others who supported my candidacy. Politics is a difficult work environment, but I hope my fellow citizens consider putting their names forward to represent our city. Public service is a noble pursuit, and we need thoughtful leaders of all backgrounds around the decision-making table. I’d like to end by thanking my council colleagues for their leadership, and to the many employees of the City of Calgary. I am convinced we have the hardest working civil service in the country, and it’s been a pleasure to work alongside you. Cold weather protocol activated.

This week, City Administration provided an overview of the outstanding considerations with the Govt of Alberta's Green Line alignment proposed in the AECOM report. The City identified $1.3 billion in known costs and risks that were not included in the AECOM proposal.

Last week a parent said my kids are so "extreme" for riding their bikes to school in winter My response, "how extreme can a 5 and 7 year old be?" We ski, snowmobile, play hockey, sled & do all sorts of cold activities. Why not bike? Their biggest complaint is being sweaty 🥵

@Sean_Tuff I use that same bin set-up in my UA sometimes! My Canadian coworker got them for me.

Yeah, but what do you do when it snows and you need to pick up groceries? I ride my bike 🤷‍♂️ I grew up playing hockey on the outdoor rink at -20C This is easy.

The politics of bike lane scapegoating is fascinating. People hate their drive. Hate it. But no matter how many years they spend hating their drive, they would rather be told bike lanes are to blame than that the way we build cities and move around them must fundamentally change.
