Stop focusing on events. My native France is full of BS Tech Events proclaiming that the country is a start up nation. I feel like that too many people from the public sphere and grifters are doing the same here. We need more money into local universities/R&D and more local VC funds.Talent is here, but instead of chasing SV dreams, it should focus on changing the local industries: finance, real estate, healthcare, shipping..so much to do with AI. Once we have a PayPal like exit/mafia coming from a multi billion dollar exit, things will get easier. Brin or Bezos coming here but not locally investing is useless for the tech community. I also agree with the comment that we need an intellectual place. I am working on the side on a think tank dedicated to the Economics of AI, and I see more interest from NY or SF for the project.Because local authorities in Miami seek quick wins.
