Tonight, I asked the Senate for unanimous consent to pass a simple voter ID requirement—something 83% of Americans support. Despite publicly stating their support for voter ID, Senate Democrats blocked its passage.

LYIN’ CHUCK: less than a week ago, Senator Schumer said Senate Democrats support voter ID. Yet, Senate Democrats just blocked @SenJonHusted’s standalone voter ID provision.

Chuck Schumer and other Democrats have insisted that they actually support Voter ID—they just object to other parts of the SAVE America Act. Well, @SenJonHusted just asked unanimous consent to pass ONLY the Voter ID portion of the bill. Democrats blocked it.

Voter ID is common sense. It’s time to see if Democrats will put action behind their words.

As Ohio’s Secretary of State, we ran elections where both Democrats and Republicans succeeded under voter ID laws.   The SAVE America Act is a commonsense step to protect election integrity and build confidence in our elections.

Whether it’s boarding a plane, buying alcohol, driving a car, or applying for federal programs—Americans use their IDs every day. It’s common sense to require ID to vote, too.

MSgt. Tyler Simmons of Columbus is remembered by his mother as someone who loved serving in the military. She shared that while he understood the risks, he often told her he believed he “was born for this.”   MSgt. Simmons attended Eastmoor Academy High School, where he played football. He enlisted in April 2018 and was assigned to the Ohio Air National Guard’s 121st Air Refueling Wing. Outside of his aviation duties, his family remembers his love for football and music.   We remember MSgt. Simmons as an American hero.

As our nation mourns the sacrifice of the three Ohio Air National Guardsmen we lost in the KC-135 crash, it’s important to honor each of the heroes who paid the ultimate price for our freedom and security. CPT. Curtis Angst, CPT. Seth Koval, and MSgt. Tyler Simmons served with the 121st Air Refueling Wing in Columbus and are remembered by those who knew them as teammates, friends, and mentors.

CPT. Seth Koval served as an aircraft commander with 19 years of military service. Throughout his career, he trained pilots in air refueling, aeromedical evacuation, and cargo and passenger operations.   A native of Mooresville, Indiana, CPT. Koval was a father, husband, son, and brother. His family remembers him as someone who was proud to put on the uniform and serve others.   We honor CPT. Koval’s service and sacrifice to our nation.

CPT. Curtis Angst from Wilmington was a graduate from the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a degree in aerospace engineering. He joined the Ohio Air National Guard in 2017 and served our country as a KC-135 pilot.   His family shared that his commitment to serving our nation was matched only by his devotion to his wife, Mary, and his passion for music and the outdoors.   We will never forget CPT. Angst’s heroism and sacrifice. My prayers remain with this family and loved ones.

Ohio is a model for what our elections should look like: easy to vote and hard to cheat. That’s why I support the SAVE America Act. All Americans deserve to cast their vote with confidence in our election systems.

Thirty-six states already have voter ID verification laws—Ohio included. Expanding this to all states makes sense to protect election integrity.

During my recent telephone town hall, Ohioans overwhelmingly said they support Senate Democrats joining Republicans to reopen the Department of Homeland Security.   We need to pay our TSA, FEMA, and Coast Guard personnel and protect the homeland.
