@tachyhya @constans But tbh having worked corrections I’ve seen plenty of septuagenarian lifers in wheelchairs. I could almost understand that for a gang leader but this ain’t that.

@tachyhya @constans Common sense would dictate they’d have to hole him up under guard at a residential facility or somewhere that already had the resources and expertise. Maybe they can figure something out with DOC before he’s convicted but yeah you can’t think a jail would work at all.

@LadyBleach @constans If they absolutely must prosecute us it’s usually a litany of ADA violations, but ADA does apply to prisons which as a practical matter makes it much less likely that they’ll incarcerate for anything but the worst offenses.

@SlackfulCyclops @constans One thing I’ve wondered about disabled people in context to law enforcement is, what’s the protocol when it comes to the physical disabled? Because obviously how criminal perpetrators are handled is under the assumption they’re able bodied

I haven't watched the Pitt but if half the ER nurses don't regularly mention being married to cops it isn't accurate

@jdcmedlock One other factor- new members of the PMC might feel more at home among working class people than scions of upper middle class families.

@constans (Yes, pretrial motions still take forever, but if we could actually provide a jury to everyone who wanted one the state would have less incentive to drag the pretrial process out)

@constans The jury system needs drastic reform. I happen to support a universal service type model where every 25 year old must serve 2 years as a professional juror. Fully cloistered, well-compensated. Would make the selection process much more efficient.

@damintoell @MattBruenig @simonw Why do they need a way to "automatically" check it? Look up the fucking citation in fucking law book, see if it's right. Lazy, shitty lawyers should be disbarred.

Not so @simonw. If you have a database that contains all of the relevant law, you can deterministically check each citation and quote against that database.

@Vokabre Rich kids don’t drive anymore, only middle class kids. Rich parents fund their kids’ Uber accounts.

It’s fun for kids until age six or so, then the kids end up in de facto house arrest with their “loving parents” no way to move around without parents’ aid until they are sixteen at best (if the family is rich enough to get them an automobile)

Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.

@NixonandIke @auautumntumn @nikicaga I’ve read accounts from protestors. But believe what you want to believe I guess. I’ll concede that he could’ve been tired rather than drunk but the effect (him rambling about surfing and traveling) was the same.

@Tisladyinred @hanjis_song @akano143 That sounds a little forward unless you’d intend it to be. If you’re both students just find some neutral place that doesn’t cost anything- I hope campuses still have a ton of cozy hangouts.

Kindergarten loves being like "your child's class' interpretation of 'Tangled,' which they've been working on for seven months, will take place tomorrow, a weekday, at 1:45 p.m. Attendance for parents is mandatory."

@AliceRHamilton @lostndaworld1 Strict != mean either. Still encounter this as an adult. If a boss has clear standards and yells at me for not meeting them, but then treats me with respect and dignity otherwise, great. It’s the arbitrariness and favoritism that’s not good, kid or adult.

@lostndaworld1 there’s definitely some strict teachers that we can all appreciate in hindsight but I don’t blame those teachers where we are now.

@MattBruenig BigLaw will kill this. They have to. Profits per partner would plummet overnight if they had to staff to pre-AI levels. As a 3L this would serve my short term interests nicely but ain’t gonna happen.

@dccommonsense @Zman1863 The number one goal of the ConCon was to guarantee state debt because a majority of the delegates were highly leveraged in the bond market. Everything else was secondary.

@Zman1863 You do understand the Constitution wasn't designed for practicality right? It's number one goal is tyranny prevention. We put up with a lot of inefficiencies for that number one triage priority. Sometimes I feel like this is what gets lost when we don't teach civics.

What's so confusing to me in this debate whether Congress or the president should be the one who decides if we go to war is who in their right mind wants that in the hands of a single individual?ANY individual?!There's a reason the Founders didn't want that, and it's common sense.
