@LadyBleach @constans If they absolutely must prosecute us it’s usually a litany of ADA violations, but ADA does apply to prisons which as a practical matter makes it much less likely that they’ll incarcerate for anything but the worst offenses.

@SlackfulCyclops @constans One thing I’ve wondered about disabled people in context to law enforcement is, what’s the protocol when it comes to the physical disabled? Because obviously how criminal perpetrators are handled is under the assumption they’re able bodied

I'm glad these people are going to use public services, we're better off as a society when we're all in one boat.
The alternative is them bidding up the price of private pre-K as a positional good, siloed off from everyone else.

@constans (Yes, pretrial motions still take forever, but if we could actually provide a jury to everyone who wanted one the state would have less incentive to drag the pretrial process out)

@constans The jury system needs drastic reform. I happen to support a universal service type model where every 25 year old must serve 2 years as a professional juror. Fully cloistered, well-compensated. Would make the selection process much more efficient.

The biggest deterrent to crime is the *certainty* of punishment. The slowness of our justice system reduces certainty and disconnects the accused from the underlying crime they are being prosecuted for. Speed the justice system up to increase certainty.

Not so @simonw. If you have a database that contains all of the relevant law, you can deterministically check each citation and quote against that database.

It’s fun for kids until age six or so, then the kids end up in de facto house arrest with their “loving parents” no way to move around without parents’ aid until they are sixteen at best (if the family is rich enough to get them an automobile)

Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.

@AliceRHamilton @lostndaworld1 Strict != mean either. Still encounter this as an adult. If a boss has clear standards and yells at me for not meeting them, but then treats me with respect and dignity otherwise, great. It’s the arbitrariness and favoritism that’s not good, kid or adult.

millennial parents are overcorrecting. the boomer teachers we grew up with were often authoritarian. our whole generation grew up promising our future children we’d always side with them over a mean teacher. problem is the teachers are not as mean as they used to be.

@Zman1863 You do understand the Constitution wasn't designed for practicality right? It's number one goal is tyranny prevention. We put up with a lot of inefficiencies for that number one triage priority.
