I repeat the words of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen to each of those of you who are aligning yourselves with the SSPX: "I beg of you...that [you] should withdraw from that schismatical sect as soon as possible or suffer the consequence of...finding [yourself] outside the Church."

@Kit19892 Yes, with the arch-nutter (soon-to-be-laicized) James Altman, and a number of other clergy who need their heads examined.

@StMichael71 Wait, that's a priest sharing that bit of nonsense?

Those sharing this ridiculous nonsense about the Jews are a viral infection the Church needs to excise from the Body of Christ pronto. Ironically, though, veneration of this nonexistent 'boy martyr' was already highly controversial before Vatican II. He was never 'canonized.'

@TheRiverLock Nostra Aetate does not conflict with any dogmatic definition in past Church teaching. Interestingly, Marcel Lefebrve physically signed Nostra Aetate and so agreed, least at that time, that Nostra Aetate did not contain any conflict with past magisterial teaching.

@StMichael71 "the Church officially rejected their heretical... slop" I don't understand Father, you are saying that the Church pre-V2 taught heresy on the jews? Because the "hateful" teachings on the jews is found in Ecumenical Councils, and Papal documents. Doesn't this deny infallibility?

If you love the liturgy pre-1970, God bless and keep you. So do I. Just try to be a normal Christian and human who isn't a hateful little pile of resentment towards others, fomenting conspiracy theories & iterating delusions. In the words of St. John: Keep yourself from idols.

Catholic antisemitism has a dark history. We ought to celebrate that the Church officially rejected their heretical, hateful slop and recognized such antisemitic attitudes as incompatible with being a Christian in Nostra Aetate. Another reason to keep away from nutjob trads.

@AntonioGodoyC Post corrected. The judicial proceedings were halted by the pope and the cultus was never officially recognized through either canonization or beatification. The story was included in the Martyrology, but it was controversial from day one. Historical studies support the move.

Project Hail Mary was a very good movie and it had a refreshingly bright little point of theological hope as the climax: "You believe in God? Beats the alternative." Really moving in context.

@HiddenYorkshire I agree that some Protestants have views approximating transubstantiation, and that non-Catholics sometimes do hold such views. But this is a truly miniscule number of Protestant groups. Roughly, it's a small subset of Anglo-Catholics.

@HiddenYorkshire I think that's not true. Many Protestants who want to appear traditional *today* are referring to 'real presence,' but mean something totally different than what Catholics/Orthodox mean. They don't mean what we mean by 'real,' as shown in what they do with Eucharistic particles.

It is fascinating to listen to Protestants discuss ecclesiology, justification, Trinitarian theology, Christology, etc., among themselves. Many times, their views are acceptable positions within Catholic theology - even though they think their views are incompatible with ours!

The Anglican/Catholic dialogue largely came to a halt after ordination of women, but the process documents can helpfully often express Catholic doctrines in Protestant language. In 'Whoever Hears You Hears Me,' I refer to the ARIC on Marian dogmas. But the others could be cited.

When they're not in polemical apologetic mode, and let their guard down with other people whom they consider broadly co-religionists, the broad basis for agreement is much more friendly to us than they realize. Re-reading the ARIC dialogues can be instructive in these regards.

I would love to see someone at the USCCB petition for the official approval of Pluscarden's two-year cycle for the Office of Readings. It is really well put-together. It uses the official cycle of scripture readings for two years taken from the CDW/DDW. A great improvement, imho.
