@StevenBrust Do you remember having a very different understanding of what cease-fire means or is that one of those deals like nelson mandela in the genie movie from the nineties

If we accept the premise that money spent on science "should" go to public works, we are a) accepting the billions for wars of aggression and the war on immigrants, and b) sabotaging what little scientific research is still publicly supported. Science is required for progress.

Yes. This expresses very succinctly something I've been trying to formulate for some time.

WSWS.ORG It is not enough to be appalled. Horror, left to itself, exhausts itself in impotent frustration or isolated episodes of individual resistance. What is required is the development of a mass working class socialist movement, which is guided by an internationalist socialist program
English

@WillShetterly To understand the nature of the state, one must understand the class struggle as not simply another form of oppression, but the central conflict of society, and all the tools of bourgeois education (eg "critical theory") are used to deny or obscure this.

@stevenfields256 @peterdaou "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it". -- Upton Sinclair
English

@peterdaou Because some people who are rich or well-to-do are not bothered by exploitation and war. They think it is not their problem and therefore insist on preserving the status quo.
It is not that they cannot understand. Rather, they do not want to understand.

@LukeMcClung2 There is a rough, rough, ROUGH draft of The Last Contract in the hands of my editor, just in case. I'm working on Chreotha now, with the plan being to rewrite TLC afterwards. Chreotha is about 1/4 of the way through the first draft.

@StevenBrust Georgism's side! Any word about the last two Taltos books being done; I'm super excited man!

The Quiet Light is here!!
She's a powerful mage awake again after 500yrs. He's a dragon: her ancient enemy… who has just introduced her to ice cream, and she's enchanted—with ice cream AND him.
And she won't let anyone take either of them from her. 💖

@quietmoderation Been there, done that, wearing it. Have also stopped at stop signs and waited for them to turn.
English

@StevenBrust At the end of a road trip, I stopped at a traffic light waiting for the green light to turn green.

@captive_0 @elcumster Thank you. And Bellamy's book is Looking Backward, unless there's another one I don't know about. And I second the recommendation. And I'll add Jack London's The Iron Heel. Timely af.
English

@elcumster @StevenBrust has been a Trotskyist longer than I've been alive so I can't not recommend his work.
also, it's utopian socialism so not Marxist but also not libslop, but I'm enjoying Falling Backwards by Bellamy.
