No, BMW wouldn’t come off their price at lease end. I got a replacement vehicle, just before I turned in the lease. I then watched the dealer’s website as my i3 fell from over $30k asking to under $20k. Last advertised price I saw was $18k, I suppose it could have gone for less. FWIW, mine was an early model with the smallest battery pack. I’ve read that later ones had better range.

In 2015 I leased a new i3. BMW was basically giving them away since they we glued to dealer’s lots. My total cost, not including insurance, was $137 a month, thanks to BMW, federal & state incentives. At lease end (2 years) they wanted $32k for it. I walked. Dealer wound up selling it $18k as a CPO. (I did the hold-mode & fuel tank coding myself. Software was free & the cable was about $9 on ebay.)

Full disclosure: I actually considered buying a BMW i3 REx (Range Extender). I figured that I could get more money from people wanting Uber Green rides. Which my Subaru qualified for, as a hybrid, until Uber decided that it would be EV’s only. I think I only ever got two uber green clients. A fat German guy (who was really nice I shouldn’t call him fat but he was and he was absolutely suffering in the Florida heat) and a white liberal woman (I’m guessing she was liberal because why else would you hire Uber Green they are more expensive than normal Uber) and her two daughters. BMW i3’s have ridiculously low resale value (as do most EV’s) so I could have gotten a relatively new one for like $10,000 and it would have had CarPlay, something I wish I have. There were just two big problems. 1. US specification i3’s are purposely…..what’s a friendly way of saying this…..neutered compared to their European counterparts. Why? Because California. Thank to the Sacramento Democrats running the California Air Resources Board (CARB), in order for the i3 to qualify for California’s tax rebate scheme, BMW had to shrink the gas tank of the range extender and disable the hold mode. Hold mode activated when your battery was at 80% and the i3’s range extender engine would kick in and would run to keep the battery at 80% (how well it holds that depends on your speed). Well, under California regulations, that’s not an EV, that’s a plug in hybrid. So The i3 wouldn’t qualify for the tax rebate program. 2. Because the gas tank was too large to comply with California regulations, BMW programmed the tank to think it was smaller. So all i3 REx’s have a 2.4 gallon fuel tank. BMW essentially programmed the i3’s computer so that once the tank got down to 1.9 Gallons, the car would think it’s out of gas. There is 2.4 gallons physically in the tank, but the computer will only recognise 1.9. This is because California regulations state that the gas range extender’s range cannot exceed or be the same as the main battery. Because then it’s a hybrid in their eyes. Got to love those California Green Climate Alarmists Democrats, am I right? People actually sued BMW over this andI think it was settled out of court, but BMW did not fix the problem. Meaning, that if I wanted a useful i3 REx for Uber, I would need to spend $200 on some guy with a laptop to plug into the OBDII port and reprogram the computer of the i3 to think it’s a Euro spec. Try explaining all this to your parents who are buying the car for you. Parents who don’t like EV’s in the first place. I don’t like EV’s either. The only reason I wanted this particular one is because it has the gas range extender so I knew in theory I could just refuelling the tank until I got home to recharge the man battery. But it’s harder to do that on US spec i3’s. There were other benefits. Because it’s a BMW, I probably would have qualified for the fancier levels of Uber because a BMW is a luxury brand. I could have scored some rich, climate doomer customers. But there were other factors that just wouldn’t work out in the i3’s favour. The clamshell doors required you to open the front doors first before the rear doors could open. Try explaining that to a customer. Also, the front passengers seat belt had to be unbuckled to open the rear doors. A really stupid design. I don’t know why BMW couldn’t just make regular doors. Or if you had to do something weird, just do s*icide….excuse me…coach doors. Then, and this was the final nail in the coffin for me, the i3 can only hold four people. Yep! There are cup holders in place of a middle seat. I don’t know why, but BMW decided not to make the i3 a five passenger car. Considering how many families of four I transport, that’s a deal breaker. So ultimately, the Subaru won out. Thanks BMW for making an EV that normies would probably be able to put up with, but then neutering it for the US market, making it impossible for normies to put up with.

I think my favorite dvd commentary fact is from Hellboy when Mike Mignola mentions he was upset that the movie got made because before that a different studio would buy the rights every year and he would make 100k for a movie that never happened.

Here is a Russian joke about food shortage, told to me BY a Russian Jew. Everyone is standing in line at the butcher shop, because there is a rumor of meat. After they'd been waiting in line for about an hour, an official comes out and shouts, "There is not enough meat for everyone. All the Jews must go home." So, moaning and sad, all the Jews head home. After another hour of waiting, the official comes out again and shouts, "There is STILL not enough meat. Everyone who is not a Party member must go home." All the non-Party members go home, cursing their luck. After yet ANOTHER hour of waiting, the official comes out one last time and shouts, "Well, there isn't any meat at all really. Everyone go home." So Ivan turns to Yuri and says, "See? This is how it always is. The Jews get all the breaks."

@Tablesalt13 The flight was intercepted by RCAF CF-18s and USAF F-16s. This is normal NORAD procedures where assets from both countries are used to accomplish the mission. All the fighters were under control of Canadian NORAD Region using Canadian C2 assets. Don't denigrate the RCAF.

At DG this a.m, my change was suppose to be 17 cents. I was given 15. I was told "they don't make pennies anymore." Doesn't matter. If you can't give exact change, the advantage should go to the customer. Otherwise the price is a lie. I held my ground and got an extra nickel.
