@cooltxchick @CAMadScientist Absolutely, but leave out the “women of a certain age”. I’m in my 70’s. Women’s lib was happening when I was a young adult. I know not every section of society believed in the independence of women, but it isn’t really a function of age. It’s all those other things you listed.

The more I think about it, I wonder how many men were waiting for this law to leave their wives in FL? Men who stayed married because it was ‘cheaper to keep her,’ as the old saying goes. Some GOP women who think they’re happily married are going to be in a world of shock sooner rather than later…

@TechWandererYT @MongeMkt @nickfloats I think it’s unreasonable and needs to change. That some people are happy to accept the terms doesn’t mean that it’s the right approach by companies. People shouldn’t just roll over and submit. The practice is wrong and stifles innovation and competition.

Meta, your NDAs suck and are totally unreasonable. AI product team offered me a consulting gig for 35hrs a week as a “Design Engineer V” and pay was quite nice, gotta say. Only problem is had I signed, I wouldn’t be able to talk or tweet about Midjourney, Runway, or pretty much any AI tool viewed as “competitive” to the work I’d be doing. Essentially all of them. Yet the reason they reached out in the first place was because of the work I was doing with these tools…it doesn’t make sense. Plus, I wouldn’t be able to talk about or share any of the work I’d be doing with them. So the offer was essentially “we like what your doing, now please stop all of it and just do it for us instead” So so dumb. After a couple months of lawyers going back and forth trying to make it work, they never gave terms even close to reasonable. Huge waste of time. Sour taste in my mouth. Felt like they were trying to fuck me over. Luckily I have a lawyer who was able to review and point out the craziness. Meta innovation lab on the other hand has been great. Probably cause they are used to working with creators and really are just there to help. But in general, be careful with these big companies. A big deal coming in from someone like meta might look cool on the surface, but the reality in my case was they were just trying to own me.

Well, it happened I cannot believe it. My colleagues elected me to be Chair of the Academic Board for the next 3 years (From Jan). I am in shock, never expected it. The peak academic body of the university @uwanews Dont know what to say. Still in shock.

I only recently learnt that long service leave, where you get a prolonged period of leave after years of work is uniquely Australian and a throwback to when Australia was ab English colony and people periodically wanted to sail home for a long visit. It’s a pretty great perk!
