It’s a pipe dream. Convert or die…. Quran 4:89 "They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper”.

The Holy Father was not saying the doctrine of Islam and the doctrine of Catholicism are compatible; as an Augustinian he knows that all too well. He is saying that Christians and Muslims can and should live alongside each other harmoniously.
Rob Schneider 🇺🇸@RobSchneider

I respectfully disagree with the @Pontifex He is regrettably ignoring the incompatibility of Islam with Christianity. Our Pope unfortunately has accepted the ideology of empathetic civilizational self-destruction.

The disrespect that so many Catholics here are showing Pope Leo is disgusting. Yea, yea, yea you all will give me the litany of the reasons you have for your disrespect. You will pummel me with questions like, “but Father, what about this, this, and this…” Well I have a question for you! Who do you all think you are? You are the holy ones? The prayerful ones? So filled with the Holy Spirit? Who are you to scrutinize and judge every single word and action of Christ’s authority on earth? The pharisaical nature of American Catholics is truly coming out. And then, so many denigrating the Pope at every turn at the same time minimize and rationalize every action and diatribe of our President? Here is a reflection for us all…Proverbs 9:10.

The intent of Jesus and his disciples was to make converts to Judaism. There was no plan for another religion. Matthew 28:19 translated from the Aramaic: "Go, therefore, and convert all nations…” Convert to what? There was no ‘Christianity’ at that time. Convert the nations to Judaism, of course. And this is what the Judean disciples did. Over the next 300+ years, there were so many converts to Judaism that in the 4th century CE., Constantine and later Byzantine emperors issued laws and the death penalty for Gentiles who converted to Judaism. Let that sink in.

I stand with my brother in Christ, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, in his courageous call for a kingdom of peace. As I prepare to visit Rome later this month to meet and pray with Pope Leo, I am mindful of his call to keep our eyes open to the suffering of the world, and our gaze fixed on our crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ – the image of the invisible God, in whose image and likeness every human being is made. In him, we recognise that we are children of the one Father and members of a single human family. Prayer is not an escape from the world, nor a turning away from injustice; rather, it is a turning towards God in the midst of it, confronting evil, seeking God’s will, and becoming instruments of transformation and peace. Let us reject the logic of violence and war, and embrace peace founded on love and justice—an unarmed peace, not based on fear, threats or weapons. This peace is disarming, because it is capable of resolving conflicts, opening hearts, and generating trust, empathy, and hope. I strongly reiterate: The world thirsts for #Peace! Enough of war and all the pain it causes through death, destruction, and exile! #ApostolicJourney #Cameroon

A better way to answer this is: “Pope Leo has been clear that every country has a right to determine who and when people enter it. He also reminds us to recognize migrants’ dignity. We must enforce the law while recognizing everyone’s humanity. The two are not in conflict.”

I can’t imagine why this has to be answered again, but here goes. Because there are Islamic scholars who professionally use the library. Muslims pray five times a day on a very strict schedule. They do not just pray sitting down quietly. They have physical gestures to do and words that need to be spoken out loud. The scholars asked if there would be a room that they could go to where they could privately do their thing without interrupting any of the other library patrons. The Vatican said yes, and provided them with a small space.

Comments from Nabeel Qureshi back in 2016 remind us of one reason why there can never be communion between Christianity and Islam: "Chapter nine of the Quran is the last major chapter of the Quran to have been composed, and it is the most expansively violent. This is the one that starts off by saying, 'This is a disavowal of all the treaties we have with polytheists.' Chapter 9:5, 'Slay the infidels wherever you find them. Lay siege to them. Take them captive.' Chapter 9:29, 'Fight the Jews and Christians until they pay you the poll tax and they feel subdued.' Why? Chapter 9:33, 'Islam has been made to Prevail over every religion.' So I mean, chapter nine is the most violent. It's the culmination of the Islamic message. It's the marching orders that Muhammad leaves Muslims with, which is why when he dies, Muslims conquer one-third of the known world within 150 years... This has been the classical understanding of Islam up until the fall of the Ottoman Empire. No Muslim really ever had qualms with it. It's what it was, and this is the means through which Allah had given Muslims dominance around the world, and it wasn't until Muslims had to as a culture flip the script and start playing the defensive, the victim card, which they hadn't done before...and that's why you don't hear the phrase 'Islam is a religion of peace' until the 20th century. It was never said. It was never thought. That wasn't the way Muslims had thought up until that time."

### Official Position and Legal Context - All UAE citizens are officially considered Muslims by the state. The constitution declares Islam as the official religion, and citizenship is tied to this identity in practice. - UAE law prohibits apostasy (leaving Islam for another faith, including Christianity). While the death penalty for apostasy exists in theory under Sharia-influenced provisions in the penal code, it has never been applied in known court cases. However, open conversion or public identification as a non-Muslim can still lead to serious consequences. - Freedom of worship is guaranteed in the constitution "as long as it does not conflict with public policy or morals". This freedom is primarily extended to non-Muslim expatriates in designated churches. For citizens, public or open practice of Christianity is not recognized or protected in the same way. ### Practical Reality for Native Emiratis - There are no known public or organized "Emirati Christian churches" or congregations made up of native citizens. Churches in Dubai (like St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Evangelical Church of Dubai) and across the UAE serve the large expatriate community (Filipinos, Indians, Westerners, etc.). They are open to anyone in theory, but a native Emirati attending regularly and openly would likely draw significant attention. - Rare cases exist: Some Emiratis (often those with mixed heritage, e.g., a foreign Christian mother, or very discreet converts) may privately identify as Christian. Anecdotal reports mention a small number of individuals practicing in secret or attending expatriate services quietly. However, these are extremely rare and typically kept hidden due to risks.11 - Social and family consequences are often the biggest barriers: Family disownment, loss of tribal/social standing, custody issues (if married with children), employment difficulties, and ostracism are common if faith becomes known. Emirati identity is deeply linked to Islam culturally and legally. - Legal risks: Open proselytizing, public displays, or attempting to change one's official religion on documents/ID is not allowed. Blasphemy-related laws can also be broadly applied. Non-citizens risk deportation for certain violations; citizens face different pressures, including potential loss of privileges tied to citizenship.
