Imagine if the previous gov’mt didn’t shit on EVs and actually encouraged suppliers to import EVs. Imagine if they had incentivised charging infrastructure. We’d be at 25-50% new car sales being electric and there’d be more fuel to go around for our farmers yet to move over to electric.

It's CRAZY to me that the Model Y L is $20k cheaper than the Kia EV9 here in Australia, yet 1000x better in every single way.
Scott Dembraski@SDembraski

My wife returns the Kia EV9 today. She is sad because she loved the color and practicality it had. She did really like “Bluey” lol. Overall we had no problems with it. No battery issues as some had. We were thankful. She’s not going to miss how it handled in the snow or bad weather. It had all season tires but seemed to slide around and she didn’t like that. The range was ok. We didn’t really travel with it. She mainly used it around town, but I think the range was maybe around 250 miles, she only supercharged it a few times at Electrify America Tesla only recently opened up charging to Kia, but we never needed it. Most times we would just take my Model S when traveling, especially because of the FSD. She wanted to possibly buy out the lease but Kia wanted way too much money for this thing. I think it was around $54,000, 2 years old with 23,000 miles. No thanks, we see used ones with less miles in the $30,000 price range. Now we play the waiting game, what she really wants is the Tesla Model YL She is going to drive my Model S for now. She’s OK with driving it, but she doesn’t like how low it sits and really hopes the YL comes soon. Please @tesla bring the Model YL to the US soon before she decides to go buy a legacy SUV that is inferior and cannot drive itself and the software is trash but just adds more buttons to try and make up for it. 🙏🏼

Go harder into the adventure market RJ, it’s the one place where autonomy makes the least sense. Fund EV adventurer channels that aren’t Rivian. Partner with automotive groups like @NRMA to create charging oasis in remote locations to enable/make safe access for remote communities.

I’m excited to announce a partnership with @Uber. As part of this, Uber plans to invest up to $1.25 billion in Rivian and deploy up to 50,000 R2 robotaxis. This partnership accelerates our path to Level 4 autonomy and supports our goal of building one of the safest autonomous platforms in the world—across both shared and personally owned vehicles. The combination of Rivian’s rapidly growing data flywheel, our in-house RAP1 inference platform (800 TOPS), and our multi-modal perception stack provides a powerful foundation to scale autonomy quickly and responsibly over the next couple of years.
Rivian@Rivian

A fleet of R2 Robotaxis is coming exclusively to @Uber. ⚡🌿 Today, we announced a partnership to help both companies accelerate their autonomous vehicle plans across 25 cities in the US, Canada and Europe by the end of 2031. rivn.co/uber

Crikey. According to the Herald, today's mega fire in Auckland was started by a high performance combustion vehicle which self-ignited and was unable to be put out. NZ Fire have since suppressed the fire, thankfully. Huge respect to our underfunded fire crews out there keeping us safe.

@sydney_ev You couldn't make this shit up .. fucking retards A 7kW charger can take approximately 8 hours to fully recharge a Tesla Model 3 or Y with a 60 kWh battery. For larger batteries, like the 75 kWh version, it may take around 10 to 12 hours to fully charge.

The right wing papers are saying the pension age needs to be raised to 75. I counter, the number of billionaires needs to be reduced to 0. That will affect 0.00006% of people, and they will still be far too rich. But it will pay for pensions, healthcare, housing and much more.

@Real_King_Elvis If we did this we would have a significantly more resilient grid, cheaper electricity, a circular resource economy locally with refined exports for global markets. The rate of EV uptake will easily guide new generation growth.

If we swapped all 20 million vehicles to EV's we'd need ~44-50 TWh more electricity annually. If we did this EV switch, it would risk blackouts, price spikes, and instability without massive immediate infrastructure. If the majority of drivers plugged in after work, it would be catastrophic. If we had a wind/sun drought, can you imagine the mayhem?
David Pocock@DavidPocock

Australia burns through about 25 billion litres of petrol and diesel every year. Replacing petrol cars with EVs would cut our reliance on expensive imported foreign fuel. But EVs still make up only about 2% of Australia’s 20 million vehicles. More affordable EVs & a strong second-hand EV market can help more Australians afford the switch while strengthening our energy security. theguardian.com/environment/20…

@99thinkaboutit @drsmithy @Real_King_Elvis What’s more likely, the average consumer having solar and batteries installed or DIY an engine rebuild and a literal home refinery? Which is simpler? EVs win. ICE is a dead end.

NEWS: Honda is reportedly cancelling the Prologue EV in the US at the end of this year, just two years after it was introduced. This means that starting in January 2027, Honda will no longer have any new EVs for sale in its lineup in America. Through Jan-Feb 2026, Honda has sold just 1,731 Prologues, down 75% from the same period last year. Prologue pricing & EPA range: • EX: $47,400, 308 miles • EX AWD: $50,400, 294 miles • Touring: $51,700, 308 miles • Touring AWD: $55,155, 294 miles • Elite: $58,355, 283 miles Last week, Honda announced it expects to report its first annual loss in nearly 70 years as a public company in the fiscal year ending March 2026, after recording a $15.7 billion write-down tied to its EV business. Honda said: “The situation changed far more rapidly than we expected. The suspension of EV subsidies in North America undercut growth, and competition in China meant we couldn’t provide attractive models or maintain our competitive edge.”
