We've entered @colosseum's hackathon. Not to win a prize, but to show you what we've been building. Introducing @rezdotgames - the most economically aligned distribution platform for games. 🧵

@brycent @kesler @PlayWildcard most PC gamers just want to play a game they don’t want to think about tokens or speculative economies blockchain can be useful tech but right now it’s often put front and center instead of staying invisible

Tbh, None of this is the reason why the game failed. They could’ve legit did everything you said above and still have failed. The appetite for web3 gaming is very small, everyone has this “build it and they will come” mentality And the reality is, they needed non crypto participants to find, like, and spend on the game, that never happened because most pc gamers don’t care about blockchain games. Demand wasn’t there consistently

Why did @PlayWildcard fail? ($55M raised + $3M from the community) 🔸As someone who’s been involved with the community since the early days, here are my impressions: 🔸The team didn’t deliver on most of their promises: Over three years, they made many commitments, including a new NFT collection, game launches, listing dates, and delivered on very few. There was always something “big” coming next week/month, but it kept getting postponed. 🔸Lack of communication: The founders had almost no communication with the community for six months. 🔸Token economics & trust issues: The WC token was positioned as 100% community-owned, and users were encouraged to buy credits at events to gain exposure. The revenue was said to support liquidity, but over $3M was raised in more than a year, and most of it appears to have gone to the team. 🔸Endless delays: The listing date was repeatedly postponed. 🔸Misaligned incentives: Framing it as a fully community-focused token sounded good, but in practice, it meant the team had little incentive to prioritize it. 🔸No marketing or post-listing support: There was almost no marketing effort before the listing, barely any tweets, and no meaningful follow-up after. A month later, they announced the shutdown. 🔸I genuinely wanted Wildcard to succeed, but unfortunately, the team didn’t value the community or its feedback. In Web3, the community is the project; ignoring it means ignoring the foundation itself. We’ll see truly community-driven gaming projects succeed again.

@tomgrove1996 @CodeRed_dev that’s not what I was getting at using assets or getting some help doesn’t make you “not indie”. it’s more about scale and framing a heavily funded studio calling itself indie is misleading. and a “solo dev” working with a large number of freelancers isn’t really solo. thats it

@Trus_Rez @CodeRed_dev So what is considered indie then? Is the problem funding or the amount of people that worked on the game? I buy all my assets from the asset store. Oh no!? Am I no longer indie even though I’m fully funding it myself?

I don't why AA devs pretend like they are Indie. A studio of 30 ex Ubisoft developers and 30 million in funding and a guy in his basement, they are totally the same.

@GiusCaminiti @fluncogms steam is great at scaling winners less great at giving every game a fair first chance that’s where most get lost

Somebody who calls web3 gaming "dead", definitely has not been attending game nights regularly I see hundreds of gamers showing up every day to attend these game nights across different communities The market might be boring, but this never actually stopped the real web3 gamers 180+ participants joining the same discord VC together to play a web3 game is no joke What do you guys think? Is web3 gaming actually dead?

@RastislavBakala not building this directly but what we're building is fixing the layer that makes or breaks everything after funding: distribution and incentives without that, even backed games don’t make it

What Web3 actually needs is a Kickstarter for gaming and real products. Not a new launchpad. Not another token sale disguised as funding. NFTs were supposed to be this. Early access, a badge, real belief in the product. Instead, 97% of gaming tokens lost value post-launch. Most NFT mints have become airdrop farming with extra steps. People don't buy because they want the game built. They buy because they want the token. The incentive is wrong. We need backers, not speculators. People who invest $50 because they want to see a game exist, get a founder badge, and early access. Not because they're trying to 10x it in 90 days. Web3 has spent $12B on gaming in 5 years. Zero breakout mainstream titles. We don't have a capital problem. We have a backer problem. Who's building this?

Creating games is no easy nor quick task. Especially when you’re developing solo, and producing all the assets from art to audio/music by hand. It's quite a grind so I hope people can appreciate devs like me who stubbornly stick to old ways of creation. Games are art! 😄 #gamedev

@Berna7224 to be fair, it’s hard to blame people we’ve had years where scams outnumbered real projects by a wide margin but I agree with you, the tech itself is solid the teams that use it properly will be the ones that win

The AI game dev stack is getting absurd: ChatGPT Image 2 → cinematic world + sprites (seconds) Rosebud → auto-slices them into your game You → shipping multiple levels in <20 min Reply and we'll send a Rosebud code so you can try it.

My game is releasing this Friday, and we just hit 700 wishlists! Thank you everyone for the support. I know it’s not much compared to popular indie games, but I’m so happy with how many I've gotten for my first game 💜

@SolBrothersPod @colosseum We're building REZ, and we're fixing game distribution today great games die unseen, creators don’t get paid, and players struggle to find what’s actually good we’re building a platform with 4% fees, instant payouts, & aligned incentives turning discovery into a growth engine
