@lowcarbGP @DiabetesUK @rcgp @DoctorTro @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @lowcarb_aus I’ve proven this to myself several times over 13 months with 2 different brands of CGM. when consuming caffeine every day my average glucose will inch up into the diabetic range, but after two weeks off caffeine it will settle down below pre-diabetes. All on low carb, of course.

In clinic I’m constantly looking at glucose spikes on the continuous glucose readings my patients with T2D bring in. This is mine, someone bought me a milky coffee and look!! Each 100ml of milk contains a teaspoon of sugar @DiabetesUK avoiding sugar means you may avoid lifelong medication 👍

@BenBikmanPhD You need to write a book on glucagon. Am sure I'm not the first to suggest it.

I'm very interested in this recently-published paper (link below) that details the remarkable improvements in #type1diabetes with GLP-1 agonists (#semaglutide; #wegovy/#ozempic). These drugs get a lot of attention for the improvements in #type2diabetes, but the improvements in #type1diabetes highlight what I believe is the main benefit in disorders of #hyperglycemia (i.e., #diabetes). Many claim that the benefit of GLP-1 agonism is the insulin-secretagogue effect (i.e., they stimulate insulin release; this idea is appropriately challenged). This study removes insulin from the equation because people with T1DM don't have sufficient beta cells to make sufficient #insulin. However, they DO have ample alpha cells producing FAR too much #glucagon. The late Dr. Roger Unger proposed that T1DM is as much a disease of too much glucagon as it is too little insulin, and was able to correct T1DM by simply inhibiting glucagon. (As a reminder, whereas insulin seeks to lower blood glucose, glucagon seeks to raise it.) That semaglutide is able to correct glycemia in people with T1DM while lowering insulin needs is evidence, to me, that the glucagon-inhibiting effect is the primary mechanism of improving glucose in people with diabetes. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

This is interesting. Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that working and building muscle at locations most remote from the head would enhance blood flow back to the brain, especially when pushing against the effects of gravity.

To me, eating keto is the easiest thing to do without relying on convenience and the fast food marketplace. It's mostly eating real food.

@ChrisPalmerMD With respect to food, is it more likely a “poisoning” or an insufficiency of some kind?

The first place to look is our food supply, but we also need to look at environmental toxins, such as plastics, pesticides, other chemicals, etc.

@kairyssdal It’s not like we didn’t all know something was up, given the timing of the hostages being released. But it’s so sad it would take over 40 years for someone with specific knowledge of what happened to come forward. Perhaps the most consequential election of the last half century!
