Update on Fable5/Anthropic: Anthropic flew its top security people to DC. The export controls are still there. Via Wired Anthropic and the Trump administration wrapped up talks on Monday with no resolution - the export controls on Claude Fable 5 are still in place. No end in sight. The company has spent days arguing that Washington's concerns about the model are overblown, a line it repeated to government researchers at the Commerce Department. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick joined by phone from the G7 summit in Evian, France, while cyber director Sean Cairncross sat the meeting out. On Anthropic's side, cofounder Tom Brown and external affairs head Sarah Heck led the discussions, with red-teaming chief Logan Graham and security researcher Nicholas Carlini flying to DC for the talks. The core disagreement is whether Fable 5's guardrails can be stripped away to unlock the more powerful Mythos capabilities underneath, the NSA thinks yes, Anthropic thinks the risk is overstated. For now there's no clear sense of what the next steps look like.

The administration viewed her as a "radical Democrat." She was then publicly celebrated by Chris Krebs, the official Trump just fired. That didn't help. Behind the scenes, officials describe a company that simply doesn't know how to talk to this administration. "It's like they just speak different languages," one source said. "Everybody said Anthropic was a bad actor. Some of us said it was time to give them a chance. Now those people are questioning that. They screwed us." Today: Anthropic staffers meet with Commerce, the CIA, and White House science advisor Michael Kratsios to work through compliance with the cyber executive order. The technical question - can Fable 5 be jailbroken - is almost secondary now. This is a story about a company that keeps losing the room. Ill keep you updated.

Everyone that is saying Fable 5 was SO good in their ~72 hours of testing (if you sat up for 3 days straight) are the same exact people that if a newer model came out after… would say Fable 5 was so bad and they hate it 🤣 You guys make me crack up bruh We are far beyond simple ‘chat’ models! If you aren't using these models to build dope shit, you're really missing out. I never said Fable 5 was bad, I am saying you can still do tons of GREAT work with both GPT 5.5 & Opus 4.6 through 4.8. Even sonnet 4.6 is so good for tool use

Reason I said relatively. It's done between 3x - 10x (depending on where you calculate from) since it's lowest points, and all of that has come from the double squeeze of demand spike (by the big labs) and supply squeeze (geopol-driven regulations). What a disaster. This genuinely goes against everything people expect from the values behind open-source models. Yesterday, Zcode was released — ZAI’s own app, built to work with their GLM models. I tried it on the Pro plan, the same Pro plan they describe as “15x Claude Code.” One single task consumed 60 million tokens from my limits in less than an hour, burning through the entire 5-hour limit without even completing the task. And the worst part? Their own app clearly showed the task used under 2 million tokens. But according to my tests, ZAI still deducted around 60 million tokens from both the 5-hour limit and the weekly limit. That strongly suggests cached tokens are being counted against me as real usage. So in practice, I am not even getting 5% of the value of my subscription. The same task was completed by Codex and MiniMax on their $20 plans. That says a lot about ZAI’s current infrastructure. I really hope they fix this, because I do want their models to succeed. I believed in the project enough to subscribe for a full year. But so far, for more than a month, I have not been able to actually benefit from my subscription. Let’s see what happens in the next few days.
